摘要: A lamp, a film guide, and a photosensitive detector are combined into an optical system contained in a portable device that generates electrical signals representing images recorded on motion picture film. The film guide has a surface proximate to the motion picture with an aperture therein through which light from the lamp passes to image the film on the photosensitive detector. A digital processor, which is electrically connected to the photosensitive detector processes an electronic signal output by the photosensitive detector. To provide compactness, the optical system has a folded path comprising three segments each separately mounted on a different surface. The first segment includes the lamp, the second includes the film guide, and the third includes the photosensitive detector. An optical detector positioned so as to receive light from the lamp enables adjusting the device when the device is moved to a location where the temperature and other environmental conditions change. This configuration also finds use when the device is located in an environment whose temperature remains consistently hot.

摘要: A continuous film scanning system for high resolution digital archival and duplication of motion picture film on a frame by frame basis. Film is driven through the film scanning system through the use of rollers and maintained at a consistent tension throughout the scanning process. Optical interrogation of the perforations associated with each film frame is used to trigger digital image capture. The continuous film scanning system is particularly well adapted to safely handle imperfect or damaged film stock.

摘要: A film scanner is disclosed which comprises a dynamic film gate (11). The film gate (11) includes a pair of capstans (12) for supporting the film (16) at an imaging station (18) and a pair of belts (20) which clamp the film (16) against the capstans (12). The capstans (12) are driven to advance the film (16) through the imaging station (18). An integrating cylinder (41), located between the capstans (12), produces a line of light on the film (16), and light transmitted through the film (16) is imaged onto a linear CCD image sensor (23).

摘要: The present invention is a method and apparatus for digitizing film frames. The invention utilizes different colored strobe lights housed in an integrating sphere (204) instead of the prior art filter and shutter mechanism. The invention's control system flashes each strobe light in sequence for a predetermined time to expose a film frame to various color components. The various color components of the film frame are projected onto a CCD arrays (210) with the aid of a lens. Each strobe light is flashed at a desired frequency and for the predetermined time in order to saturate the CCD array (210) with the component of light corresponding to that strobe light. The color data corresponding to each color component are passed to digital signal processors for processing and storage. In one embodiment of the invention, the strobe lights are red, green, and blue strobe lights.

摘要: Telecine apparatus preferably of the line array type has the line scan rate controlled in response to a tachometer sensing the instantaneous film speed to overcome problems caused by film speed variations. The output signal is compensated in inverse relation to the scan period to compensate for consequent variations in the integration time for the array. For very slow film speeds the actual scan rate is increased from the required scan rate by a factor of a power of two and unwanted scans (dummy scans) are ignored. For very fast film speeds the actual scan rate is decreased from the theoretically required scan rate by a factor m, likewise a power of two, and a full picture formed from lines from the latest m/2 fields, or by repeating or interpolating lines in the latest field only. To find a shot change at low film speeds the output picture has two parts, the junction between them being defined by a particular line scan, and the two parts being derived from two adjacent film frames. When the film is stopped, one part of the picture is the normal interlaced output and another part formed from a line direct from the linear array to enable proper functioning of the array to be confirmed.

摘要: An optical scanning apparatus with a summing means to add the contents of two adjacent pixel sensors is suggested, thus summarizing each two adjacent pixels in low-resolution scanning mode. A CCD line sensor with two separate shift registers for odd and even pixels is used. In the low-resolution mode clocks are used to control odd and auxiliary gates (3, 5). In contrast to a high-resolution mode the clock for the even photo gates (4) is inactive.
