Abstract:
An apparatus for cutting food product includes at least one knife having longitudinal ends and a hollow spindle. The knife has a central region therebetween and a base and opposite sides located along a longitudinal extent thereof. The hollow spindle has a slot for receiving the knife. The slot has a base wall for engaging and supporting the base of the knife and side walls for engaging and supporting the sides of the knife. The spindle includes a circumferential wall in which at least two circumferential gaps are present to segment the wall into at least two end wall segments and a third wall segment therebetween. The gaps separate the slot into at least two end slot segments and a third slot segment therebetween that are complementary to and receive, respectively, the base and side walls of the knife at the longitudinal ends and central region, respectively, of the knife.
Abstract:
A cutting apparatus and a method are disclosed for cutting a plurality of articles from a sheet or web of material. A knife (14) can be formed in or secured to the outer surface of a rotary die cutter. The knife (14) includes a first cutting member (40) having a first end (42), and second and third cutting members joined to the first end of the first cutting member. The second and third cutting members are arranged relative to one another to form an arcuate section (18, 50) which intersects with the first cutting member (40) to form a general wishbone configuration. A unique knife profile enables two adjacently arranged articles to be cut simultaneously from a sheet or web of material with zero clearance between at least a portion of the outer peripheries of the two articles.
Abstract:
There is provided a surgical saw blade for use in orthopaedic surgery. The saw blade comprising: a mounting cavity having a first substantially triangular-shaped opening and a second substantially triangular-shaped opening in communication with, and inverted relative to, the first opening, the first and second opening collectively define two mounting slots that form an angle relative to one another. In some embodiments, the planar portion further comprises an offset planar shelf. The offset shelf may be oriented along the length of the planar portion to allow for longitudinal reciprocation or may be oriented across the width of the planar portion to allow for lateral reciprocation.
Abstract:
An apparatus for cutting food product so that the product is properly oriented and stabilized before and throughout the cutting operation to produce a sliced product of uniform thickness, even if the delivered food product varies in shape and size, such as when both round and elongate potatoes are used to produce potato chips. The apparatus includes a cutting device and housing thereabove that defines a passage with an opening in proximity to the cutting device, such that food product is delivered to the cutting device in a substantially vertical direction. To improve the stability of round product during the cutting operation, the housing has an upper portion and a flared lower portion immediately below the upper portion so that at least a portion of the opening of the passage is defined by the flared region and has a larger radius of curvature than the upper portion.
Abstract:
A tip holder, wherein a rotating shaft (23) is inserted through the axis part of a cutter wheel tip for scribing a brittle material so as to be integrally formed with the cutter wheel tip and supportedly inserted into supporting holes (14) provided in the side wall parts (11) of a tip holder (10), and groove parts (13) are formed at the upper parts of the supporting holes (14) along the axial direction of the supporting holes (14).
Abstract:
Rotary shears for dividing sheet steel strips or sheet steel panels into several bands comprises a machine frame, two blade shafts (5, 6) rotatably mounted in the machine frame at an adjustable distance apart and at least one of which is driven, roller blades (14) which can be positioned axially on the blade shafts (5, 6), a manipulator (15) which can slide on the machine frame parallel to the blade shafts (5, 6) and which positions the roller blades (14) axially on the blade shafts (5, 6), and releasable clamping means (44, 45, 51) for clamping the roller blades (14) on the blade shafts (5, 6) in predetermined positions. All roller blades (14) can be positioned on the blade shaft (5, 6) individually and independently of each other by means of the manipulator (15) and can be clamped on the blade shaft (5, 6) individually and independently of each other by means of the clamping means (44, 45, 51).
Abstract:
A rotatable cylinder (16) to which is secured a unitary sleeve (24) having cutting lands (26) for cutting and creasing sheet material such as paper and cardboard. The sleeve is secured to the cylinder to prevent relative movement during the cutting process. For this purpose, a key (28) on the sleeve engages a keyway (20) in the cylinder. A pair of wedge-shaped gibs (32, 34) slidably interengage in a slot (22) in the cylinder to expand against the interior of the sleeve.
Abstract:
There is provided a surgical saw blade for use in orthopaedic surgery. The saw blade comprising: a mounting portion with a mounting cavity; a first planar portion extending longitudinally from the mounting portion; and a second shelf portion offset from the first portion. In one embodiment, the saw blade further comprises a transition portion between the first portion and the second portion. The second offset shelf portion may be oriented along the length of the first planar portion to allow for longitudinal reciprocation or may be oriented across the width of the planar portion to allow for lateral reciprocation. In some embodiments, the second offset shelf portion is offset from the first planar portion by a discrete amount.
Abstract:
A saw arbor formed of a mandrel (10) and a cylindrically apertured sleeve (22). Radially spaced splines (20, 28) are provided around the mandrel's outer circumference (21) and around the inner circumference (26) of the sleeve aperture (24). The mandrel splines (20) and the sleeve aperture splines (28) are shaped and sized for slidable mating engagement of the mandrel splines (20) with the aperture splines (28). Radially spaced splines (32) are also provided around the sleeve's outer circumference (30). The sleeve outer circumference splines (32) are shaped and sized for slidable mating engagement with further splines (34) spaced radially around a saw blade eye (36). Equal numbers of equally spaced involute splines are preferably provided around the mandrel (10), around the inner circumference (26) of the sleeve aperture (24) and around the sleeve's outer circumference (30). The splines can be formed to achieve 0.001" (0.0254 mm) tolerance engagement between the mandrel (10) and the sleeve (22), and between the sleeve's outer circumference (30) and the saw blade eye (36), thus providing a high precision cutting unit.
Abstract:
An arbor (30) for a guided circular saw (28) has three symmetrical lobes (50). The lobes (50) have end regions (52) with profiles which follow an arc centred on an axis of rotation (40) of the arbor (30). The lobes (50) have driving regions with profiles which follow the arc of a circle (53) centred in an opposing lobe (50). A saw (28) for use with the arbor (30) has an eye (60) with a shape which follows the contour of the arbor (30). The saw (28) is capable of floating axially along the arbor (30). The saw (28) and arbor (30) can be used to advantage in sawing machines such as edgers. The arbor (30) provides a much larger saw contact area than do prior art arbors. In one embodiment of the invention the saw (28) is mounted between a pair of spaced-apart collars (80) on the arbor (30). The collars (80) guide the saw (28) but are not tightly clamped to the saw (28).
