The invention is related to filter elements, more specifically to filter elements for removing dust from air. In an embodiment of the invention an inventive filter element (100) comprises a housing (110) having a first side (111) and a second side (112), filter material (120) in said housing, a space (130) between said filter material and said first side of said housing for forming a suction chamber (130), and at least one hole (140) in said first side (111), whereby the area within the circumference of the side of the filter material facing said first side (111) of said housing (110) is larger than the area of said at least one hole (140).

A system for removing particulate matter from a multiphase stream comprising gas, liquid and the particulate matter. The system comprises a first vessel for receiving the multiphase stream and separating a majority of gas from the multiphase stream and collecting a slurry of liquid and particulate matter; a second vessel for receiving the slurry and causing separation of the particulate matter from the liquid and for generating a pressure head of liquid against the particulate matter; a third vessel for receiving the particulate matter from the second vessel and collecting the particulate matter until a pre-determined mass or volume of particulate matter is collected; and an outlet in the third vessel for conveying the particulate matter out of the third vessel.

An asymmetric inlet particle separator system (AIPS) includes a bifurcated duct system that defines an inlet for receiving inlet air. The bifurcated duct system includes a core air channel and a scavenge air channel and is configured to separate the inlet air into core air and scavenge air. The scavenge air channel includes a first plurality of turning vanes configured to turn the scavenge air in a first direction and a second plurality of turning vanes configured to turn the scavenge air in a second direction. The AIPS also includes an asymmetric scroll coupled to the scavenge air channel. The asymmetric scroll includes a first arm having a first arm length and a second arm having a second arm length that is different than the first arm length.

This invention relates to the separation of particulate contaminants from a fluid. In one embodiment of the invention, two sand separators placed in series may be used to separate sand from liquid or gaseous natural gas. This invention has some of its applications in the oil gas industry, particularly for use in separating sand from gas produced by natural gas wells that have been opened by hydraulic fracturing.

This invention relates to an inertial filter 10 for filtering out particulate material in a fluid. The invention extends to a method of manufacturing an inertial filter 10. The filter 10 includes a pair of opposing baffle plates 12, 14 comprising a first baffle plate 12 and a second baffle plate 14 which are operatively in face-to-face abutment with each other such that the plates 12, 14 are in substantially parallel planes. Each baffle plate 12, 14 is in the form of a layered grille or grating in that it comprises a first (an inner) filter member 16 and a second (an outer) filter member 18. More specifically, the first baffle plate 12 includes an outer filter member 18a and an inner filter member 16a which are press-fitted over one another. Similarly, the second baffle plate 14 comprises an outer filter member 18b and an inner filter member 16b.
