All of the first write commands that are pending are completed after the first application is paused. The cascaded data mover further includes control unit that instructs replication unit to jump to newer snapshot when certain percent of current snapshot is copied to cascaded backup data, by means of creating a difference bitmap, merging difference bitmap with bitmap, and copying blocks from newer snapshot according to merged bitmap. The system provides improved data storage by not moving to newer snapshot before completely coping certain amount of data from current snapshot.

Abstract: A memory controller is operatively connected to clients for shared memory access, and the memory controller is configured to perform a recovery of a shared memory by generating a backup snapshot of shared memory and restoring shared memory as per backup snapshot to a target file system. The memory controller is configured to prior to generating the backup snapshot: start snapshot timer; generate intermediate snapshot; restore shared memory as per intermediate snapshot to target file system; stop snapshot timer; determine if snapshot timer exceeds a snapshot time threshold, and if so generate another intermediate snapshot until snapshot timer is less than snapshot time threshold and then suspend memory operations. The memory controller is configured to, after generating backup snapshot, resume memory operations. The memory controller establishes an initial consistent synchronization point of shared memory and clients. Thus, incremental changes are stored without any data loss.
