Abstract: Apparatus for removing all or part of a roll of magnetic tape stored in a reel of a reel-to-reel tape transport device (100). The apparatus consists of a stripper reel (10) which is structurally compatible with a reel mounting hub of the transport device. The stripper reel includes a hard circular "reel core" (20) mounted to the hub and supporting front and back flanges, as well as a resilient annular "tape core" (30) fitted around the reel core.

Abstract: A magnetic tape (10) having a pattern (18) of magnetically polarized stripes (20) recorded thereon. The magnetically polarized stripes are parallel to the length of the tape and are provided on at least one portion (12) of the tape. The stripes are polarized substantially transverse to their length and are recorded to a depth sufficient to ensure that a plurality of data tracks (30) spanning at least a portion of the width of the tape may be recorded over the stripes without significantly altering the magnetic properties of the stripes. The pattern can be used to provide information to a drive, e.g., the type of tape being used, whether the drive has reached the end of the tape, wether the tape is centered, etc. The invention also includes a magnetic head (60, 90) for recording the pattern.

Abstract: The object of the present invention is to facilitate the production of master tapes in studios for producing audio and/or video information carriers thereform, by reducing the time and increasing the quality of producing the master tapes. The blank tapes are made first by making a tape web (21) including a support layer and a sensitive layer, winding the tape web (21) on a winding roller (22), unwinding the tape web (21) and cutting it into large diameter tape coils (26) by a cutter (25) and then separating each tape coil (26) by a cutter (27) into individual tapes (27) which are inserted in cassettes. The tape (1, 6, 12) is coded with codes (4, 5, 10, 11, 14, 15) directly during the process of its making, either during the winding on the winding roller (22), or during its unwinding and before cutting by the cutter (25), or before separating by the cutter (27).
