The antenna assembly includes first and second adjacent antenna elements each having a tapered or conical antenna body with a base and an apex opposite the base. An elongated or cylindrical antenna body extends from the base of the conical antenna body, and includes a plurality of adjacent elongated or cylindrical antenna body portions, and a respective dielectric member separating adjacent cylindrical antenna body portions. Each of the first and second adjacent antenna elements are aligned along a common longitudinal axis with respective apexes in opposing relation to define a dipole antenna. Increased radiation pattern bandwidth and satisfactory pattern on the horizon may be achieved in such a biconical-type antenna.

An apparatus comprising: a first port configured to couple to a first location on an antenna; a second port configured to couple to a second location on the antenna; a switch configured to switch between a first electrical configuration in which the first port is coupled to radio circuitry, and a second electrical configuration in which the second port is coupled to the radio circuitry; first reactive circuitry configured to impedance match the antenna with the radio circuitry at a first operational resonant frequency band; and second reactive circuitry, different to the first reactive circuitry, and configured to impedance match the antenna with the radio circuitry at a second operational resonant frequency band, different to the first operational resonant frequency band.

메타머티리얼을 이용한 광대역 안테나 및 이를 포함하는 통신장치가 개시된다. 본 발명의 실시예에 따른 메타머티리얼을 이용한 광대역 안테나는, CRLH-TL(Composite Right/Left Handed Transmission Line) 구조에서 RH(Right-Handed) 특성을 나타내는 전송선로로서, 공진주파수에 따라 특정 패턴으로 구현되어 안테나 방사체로서 역할을 하는 방사패치와, 상기 방사패치의 일단에 연결되어 상기 방사패치로 전력을 공급하는 급전라인과, 상기 방사패치의 타단에 연결되어 상기 방사패치를 그라운드에 접지시키는 접지라인, 및 상기 접지라인 상부에 형성되어 CRLH-TL 구조에서 LH(Left-Handed) 특성을 나타내는 제 1 병렬 인덕터의 역할을 하는 페라이트 헬리컬 로딩부(Ferrite Helical Loading)를 포함한다. 따라서 메타머티리얼 안테나의 대역폭을 확장할 수 있다.

The dielectric substrate (14) also comprises a second branch (14b) that comprises a second antenna pattern and a second ground point (16b) for connecting the second antenna pattern to a second ground (18b). Each antenna pattern is thereby arranged to transmit and/or receive signals within a predetermined frequency band when said antenna assembly (12) is in use.

The invention relates to an internal monopole antenna of especially a flat a radio device, which monopole antenna has an arrangement for improving its characteristics. The antenna comprises a planar monopole radiator (310) and an auxiliary element (320), which is located at the point of the planar element as viewed in the direction of its normal. The auxiliary element can be a mere conductor strip or a ceramic plate partly coated with a conductor. The conductor of the auxiliary element is connected to the ground at a point (SP), which is relatively close to the feed point (FP) of the planar element. The planar element (310) can be shaped to form two operating bands for the antenna. The auxiliary element can be used to increase the bandwidth of the internal monopole antenna and/or to improve the omnidirectional radiation of the antenna.

A first radiating element is disposed on the first face adjacent the first end, and a second radiating element is disposed on the dielectric substrate second face adjacent the second end. Each radiating element tapers from a respective end of the substrate to a medial portion of a respective face. Each radiating element also includes a respective meandering electrically conductive path.
