Abstract: Electrical transmission and distribution lines and methods for the installation and interrogation of such electrical lines. The electrical lines include overhead electrical cables that include a strength member and at least one optical fiber coupled to the strength member. Termination arrangements are configured to secure the electrical cables to a support tower while enabling the passage of the optical fiber(s) through the termination arrangement without damaging the optical fibers. Optical fibers from two adjacent electrical cable segments may also be fused to enable the interrogation of the two cable segments from a single interrogation device.

Abstract: A termination arrangement for securing an overhead electrical cable having a multi-element strength member to a dead-end structure such as a dead-end tower. The termination arrangement includes a compression sheath structure that is configured to be disposed over the individual composite rods of the strength member. The compression sheath structure mitigates damage to the strength member that may occur when an outer metallic sleeve is compressed around the conductive strands and the conductive strands are compressed against the strength member. The arrangement is particularly useful for securing overhead electrical cables having a composite strength member to a dead-end structure.

Abstract: A clamping insulator for securing electrical wires to support structures comprising an insulating second clamp member, and an insulating first clamp member that is hingebly connected to the insulating second clamp member and an eyebolt, wherein the hinge is positioned at an angle relative to the electrical wire, the first clamp member is simply flipped over upon the second clamp member to secure the wire in place, the eyebolt both secures the first and second clamp members in the closed position and allows easy access for a lineman with a hot stick, and, in the closed position, the eyebolt is positioned at a compound angle relative to the ground and supporting structure it sits upon to provide easy access for a hot stick.

The method provides, for example, a method for maintaining sections of electrically conductive phases in a three-phase power conductor line, wherein the three phases are parallel and spaced apart in an ordered sequence. The phases are strung between support structures and supported above the ground. Maintenance work, which include replacement or repair, is performed on sections of the three phases without interrupting a power load in any one of the three phases and without transposing the relative positions of the phases out of their ordered sequence.

Abstract: Systems and methods for providing modular bird control deterrent devices with spikes for use with overhead electrical wire are provided. A modular bird control segment base provides locking support for one or more bird control spikes by including locking flanges in a spike support cavity of the segment base that engages and locks a spike by engaging a groove in the bottom portion of the respective spike. The bird control segment base provides attachment support for fasteners that secure the bird control segment base to the electrical wire in use by providing opposing slot openings in a groove on the top of the segment base to engage a fastener. The bird control segment base also has opposing fastening mechanisms for connecting multiple segments together.
