Abstract: A vehicular component, such as vehicular roof or vehicular hood or vehicular door or vehicular side-panel or vehicular trunk cover, has a plurality of electrically interconnected flexible solar cells, that are integrally embedded therein. Optionally, the vehicular component has curvatures or has non-planar regions or curved regions; and the integrally embedded flexible solar cells are arranged in a three-dimensional structure that follows or matches the vehicular contour. The embedded flexible solar panels are not directly in touch with the air that surrounds the vehicle; rather, they are infused or embedded within one or more layers of the vehicular component; optionally sandwiched between encapsulant layers; optionally further sandwiched between a topsheet and a backsheet; optionally further sandwiched between two thermoformed layers that are formed of polycarbonate or other thermoformable materials.

Abstract: Features for a solar generation system. The system includes a solar generator that may be installed on a shipping container. A base frame with corner castings may attach to standard connections on cargo containers. The solar generators may be stacked on top of each other when stowed for transport. An actuation system may include linear actuators with two arms connecting at a moving pivot point that attach to a base frame and to the panels for deployment. Another actuation system may include end-mounted linear actuation arms with panel backside-mounted deployment arms.

Abstract: A deployable/retractable structure, or a template thereof, is disclosed. The structure comprises a plurality of pleating folds among peaks and valleys, which extend away, retract towards, and/or rotate around a central hub. The folds, with extended continuous planar surfaces, can be configured to host objects, such as solar arrays. In a retracted configuration, solar arrays are protected and folded away, taking up much less space. Electricity generated via the arrays is coupled with signals to instruct the structure to transition among stages of retractions and/or deployments. This structural design enables the solar arrays to be positioned in many angles and facets, which makes it an overall non-flat unit, less dependent on the directions of sunlight. A smaller scaled down unit can be light, portable, and operated by hand. A larger scaled up unit can be stationed on the ground or atop existing charging stations, which affords easier access and maintenance.

In some embodiments, the power generator may comprise: (v) a source of H2 and O2 supplied to the plasma, (vi) a molten metal recovery system, and (vii) a power converter capable of (a) converting the high-power light output from a blackbody radiator of the cell into electricity using concentrator thermophotovoltaic cells with light recycling or (b) converting the energetic plasma into electricity using a magnetohydrodynamic converter.

In further aspects, the invention further provides methods for capturing and converting solar energy, for transporting solar panel systems and for moving the solar panels.
