    Abstract: A device includes a wireless power transfer coil (227a, 227b) couplable to a complementary wireless power transfer coil (247a, 247b) of another device. The device further includes wireless power transmitting and/or receiving circuitry and a processing and communications system, and a wireless communications coil (228) coupled to the processing and communications system. The communications coil includes a winding magnetically couplable to a corresponding communications coil (248) of the complementary device to allow communications between the processing and communications system and the complementary device. The wireless communications coil (228) is separated from the power transfer coil (227a, 227b) along a longitudinal axis of the device.

    Abstract: An antenna comprises a coil element, a first metallic plate element, a second metallic plate element and terminals. The first metallic plate element and the second metallic plate element each have the shape of a triangle or an isosceles trapezoid. Further, the first metallic plate element and the second metallic plate element are mirror symmetric with respect to a symmetry plane that is perpendicular to the longitudinal direction. The antenna provides a wider area of use at small size and can thus be used for different transmission technologies, such as NFC and UWB.

    Abstract: In an aspect, a user equipment (UE) determines a mutual coupling signal associated with a transmit antenna and a receive antenna, determines a mutual coupling difference between the mutual coupling signal and a reference signal, determines a beat signal difference between a current beat signal and a previous beat signal, and determines an amount of micro-motion that is present within a near field. The UE determines whether human tissue is present within the near field based on the mutual coupling difference and the amount of micro-motion. Based on determining that the human tissue is present within the near field, the UE determines an amount of radio frequency exposure associated with the human tissue. Based on determining that the amount of radio frequency exposure exceeds a maximum permissible exposure, the UE reduces the amount of radio frequency exposure associated with the human tissue.

    Abstract: Embodiments are disclosed for a low-frequency detection and ranging. In an embodiment, an apparatus comprises: an open electrode; an alternating current (AC) voltage source configured to supply an excitation voltage to the open electrode at an excitation frequency; a resonant circuit coupled to the open electrode, the resonant circuit configured to oscillate when an object is within a detection distance of the open electrode; one or more processors configured to: obtain time domain samples of an output voltage of the resonant circuit when the resonant circuit is oscillating; convert the time domain samples into frequency domain samples; for each frequency domain sample, determine an amplitude difference and a phase difference as compared to an amplitude and phase of the excitation voltage; and determine a material class of the object based on the amplitude difference and the phase difference.

    Abstract: The technology provides for a wearable device including a body and an accessory adapted to be attached to the body. The body includes a first coil configured to inductively transmit power. The body may further include first power management circuitry configured to control the first coil to transmit power according to a wireless charging standard, and to modulate the power transmitted through the first coil to transmit data according to a wireless communication standard. The accessory may include a second coil configured to inductively receive power.
