Abstract: In various embodiments an endpoint application reconstructs downscaled videos. The endpoint application accesses metadata associated with a portion of a downscaled video that has a first resolution and was generated using a trained downscaling convolutional neural network (CNN). The endpoint application determines, based on the metadata, an upscaler that should be used when upscaling the portion of the downscaled video. The endpoint application executes the upscaler on the portion of the downscaled video to generate a portion of a reconstructed video that is accessible for playback and has a second resolution that is greater than the first resolution.

Abstract: Apparatus and methods for processing video surveillance data includes training a data repository, using a first plurality of surveillance video files including a first plurality of video frames, to identify macroblocks of the video frames representing average content of the first plurality of surveillance video files. An ordered data structure is generated by sorting the plurality of macroblocks of video frames based on image differences within the plurality of macroblocks. The ordered data structure includes a root node. A second plurality of surveillance video files including a second plurality of video frames is received. The second plurality of video frames is inserted into the generated ordered data structure. References to the generated ordered data structure are stored in the data store for each frame of the second plurality of video frames along with a difference between corresponding video frames and references.

Abstract: A mobile device capable of device-adaptive super-resolution based adaptive streaming may include a super-resolution-based adaptive bitrate (SR-based ABR) application configured to receive an input and determine a quality of a representation of a video to request based on the input, the SR-based ABR application being able to compute a cost of requesting the quality of representation based on a cost function. The mobile device may apply an SR network to the representation of the video to upscale the representation of the video to a desired resolution. The mobile device also may include a display configured to play back a segment of the video. A method for SR-based adaptive streaming may include receiving an input, determining whether to request a lower resolution representation of a video segment based on the input, and applying an SR network to the lower resolution representation to upscale it to a desired resolution.

Abstract: Tensor-Product B-splines (TPB) have been shown to improve video quality when used to represent reshaping functions to map reshaped standard dynamic range content into high dynamic range (HDR) content; however, TPB prediction is computationally intensive and may not be supported by legacy devices. Methods and systems for backwards-compatible signaling of TPB-related metadata and a fast TPB prediction method are presented to overcome both of these limitations. Computation overhead for a TPB-based 3D look-up table is reduced by using temporary two-dimensional arrays. A remapping of the most significant bits of a legacy bit-depth parameter allows for backwards compatibility.

The method also includes progressively rendering a decoded version of the encoded image, wherein the progressively rendering comprises rendering a high resolution version of the bounding region, and a low resolution version of a portion outside the bounding region.
