Abstract: In one or more embodiments, a folding chair is provided having a frame, a seat operably connected to the frame, a backrest operably connected to the frame, and a counterbalance assembly, among other components. The backrest is configured to move between an upright position and a reclined position. The counterbalance assembly is configured to apply a counterbalance force to the backrest. In one or more arrangements, the counterbalance assembly is configured to provide a counterbalance force to move the backrest to the upright position in absence of an opposing force. In one or more arrangements the counterbalance assembly is configured to hold the backrest at one or more intermediate positions between the upright position and the reclined position. In one or more arrangements the counterbalance assembly is configured to increase the counterbalance force applied to the backrest at one or more intermediate positions between the upright and reclined positions.

Abstract: The present disclosure is directed to a method of collecting and using data obtained from an intelligent automated chair to optimize workflow and increase a user or group's health and productivity. Sensors in the intelligent automated chair can include motion, touch, heart rate, weight, presence, sound, keystroke, etc. In addition, posture, health, and productivity data are collected and compared over periods of time along with a learning algorithm to recommend specific operating models to increase a user or group's overall posture, health, and productivity. The methods and systems are configured to recommend action steps based on usage that can include a chair training program, nutritional training program, mental health training, bonus consideration, rewards program, advancement consideration, etc. Furthermore, the metrics and recommendations can assist with addressing issues associated with absenteeism and presenteeism. Lastly, data collected can be used to create forecasting models based on productivity and health cost.

Abstract: A simplified, compact, recliner mechanism is provided which can be adapted to many types of recliner design. A front linkage assembly and a rear linkage assembly provide the desired movement of the seat and back when moving from the TV position to the fully reclined position, obviating the need for a track and roller design. Moreover, a front pivot link and a rear pivot link are provided and oriented in a manner that allows the desired forward seat movement as the recliner moves from the closed position to the TV position. The geometries of the front linkage assembly, the rear linkage assembly, the front pivot link and the rear pivot link allow a slim profile design allowing great flexibility in the design of the recliner.

Abstract: A seating unit is provided with a glider linkage and a powered reclining mechanism, supported on a pedestal base. The glider linkage allows the seating unit to move to and fro in a gliding motion when the seating unit is in the closed position. The powered reclining mechanism allows independent operation of the footrest and back recline, utilizing a two-motor design. As the seating unit moves from the closed position to the TV position, with the footrest extended, a locking linkage prevents the glider linkage from moving. Additionally, the locking of the glider linkage provides at least a portion of the change in pitch of the seat. The recliner linkage provides the remaining portion of the change in pitch of the seat as the mechanism moves from the closed to the TV position.
