    Abstract: Systems and methods for processing a mixed plastic waste feed to produce a hydrogen-rich hydrocarbon product, such as synthetic crude oil or pyrolysis oil, by processing the mixed plastic waste feed through two cracking units. The first cracking unit is operated at a temperature and a residence time sufficient to at least partially depolymerize the plastic polymers in the mixed plastic waste feed to produce a molten oligomers product stream also containing inorganic components from the mixed plastic waste feed and a gas stream. This molten oligomers product stream is further processed in a thermal or a catalytic cracking unit to produce a hydrocarbonaceous stream that is processed to produce the hydrogen-rich hydrocarbon product, such as a synthetic crude oil that can be processed in a refinery or a pyrolysis oil that can be fed to a steam cracker.

    Abstract: An improved process for making a bright stock base oil from a base oil feedstream comprising an atmospheric resid feedstock, and, optionally, a base oil feedstock, via hydroprocessing. The process generally involves subjecting a base oil feedstream comprising the atmospheric resid to hydrocracking and dewaxing steps, and optionally to hydrofinishing, to produce base oil product(s) including a bright stock grade base oil product having a viscosity of at least about 22 cSt at 100°C. The invention is useful to make heavy grade base oil products such as bright stock, as well as Group II and/or Group III/III+ base oils.

    Abstract: The present invention provides a method of upgrading mixed waste plastic pyrolysis oil comprising the steps of providing a pyrolysis oil stream derived from mixed waste plastic, subjecting the pyrolysis oil stream to fractional condensation to obtain three pyrolysis oil fractions, determining properties of the pyrolysis oil fractions, determining an adjusted proportion of the pyrolysis oil fractions to be fed to a hydro-upgrading section for obtaining a product with a predetermined product specification, feeding the pyrolysis oil fractions in the adjusted proportion to a pyrolysis oil hydro-upgrading section to perform a hydro-upgrading operation, adjusting one or more control parameters of the pyrolysis oil hydro-upgrading section according to the adjusted proportion of the pyrolysis oil fractions and the predetermined product specification; and separating an hydro-upgrading section outlet stream to obtain a product stream with the predetermined product specification. In this way, the upgrading of the pyrolysis oil can be tailored and adapted to the great variability of properties of pyrolysis oil derived from mixed plastic waste pyrolysis in order to obtain a uniform commercial-grade fuel that can achieve a premium market value. The process may comprise in-situ hydrogen generation by water electrolysis powered by solar photovoltaic energy.

    Abstract: A process for treatment of PFO from a steam cracking zone includes selectively hydrogenating PFO or a portion thereof for conversion of polyaromatics compounds contained in the PFO into aromatic compounds with one benzene ring to produce a selectively hydrogenated stream. The selectively hydrogenated stream is selectively hydrocracked for selective ring opening and dealkylation to produce a selectively hydrocracked BTX+ stream. The selectively hydrocracked BTX+ stream is separated into BTX compounds. Optionally the PFO is separated into a first stream containing C9+ aromatics compounds with one benzene ring, and a second stream containing C10+ aromatic compounds, whereby the first stream containing C9+ aromatics compounds with one benzene ring is passed to the selective hydrocracking step, and the feed to the selective hydrogenation step comprises all or a portion of the second stream containing C10+ aromatic compounds.
