Methods, systems, and devices for methods for supporting mismatched transaction granularities are described. A memory system may include a host device the performs data transactions according to a first code word size that is different than a second code word size associated with a storage component within the memory system. A cache may be configured to receive, from the host device, a first code word associated of the first code word size and associated with a first address of the storage component. The cache may store the first code word. When the first code word is evicted from the cache, the memory system may generate a third code word of the second size based on the first code word and a second code word stored in the first address of the storage component and store the third code word at the first address of the storage component.

A computer-implemented method includes: detecting a first error while accessing a magnetic tape, determining a first error location on the magnetic tape where the first error occurred, determining one or more areas on the magnetic tape to be examined, independent of a read and/or write operation, inducing relative motion between a tape head and the magnetic tape such that the tape head is positioned adjacent to each of the respective one or more areas in turn, using the tape head to measure a number of servo errors that occur in each of the respective one or more areas, and identifying each of the one or more areas having a respective number of measured servo errors which exceeds a threshold value as a damaged area of the magnetic tape. The one or more areas are determined using a predetermined algorithm which incorporates the first error location.

The proposed technology provides methods, devices and computer programs for performing data error detection and correction. It is provided a method for performing data error detection and correction. The method comprises the step S1 of providing multiple Mojette transform projections (pi,q,) obtained by applying an encoding Mojette transform on an input, or original, block of data elements or values. The method also comprises decoding S2 the multiple Mojette transform projections to form a reconstructed block of data elements or values. The method also comprises investigating S3 whether any of the decoded Mojette transform projections comprises at least one bin≠ 0 following generation of the reconstructed block, thus providing an indication that a data error has been detected in the reconstructed block. The method also comprises determining S4, if at least one bin≠ 0, a corrected reconstructed block of data elements or values based on the decoded Mojette transform projections. The proposed technology also provides devices and computer programs implementing the method.

Aspects of the disclosure provide a circuit that includes a decoder, an error checking module, and a controller. The decoder is configured to receive codewords, and decode the codewords based on an error correcting code. The error checking module is configured to errorcheck sectors using an error detecting code in the sectors. Each sector is formed of a plurality of decoded codewords. The controller is configured to store in a memory, when the error checking fails for at least one sector, the decoded codewords and corresponding flags indicative of pass or fail of the decoding of the codewords.

Various embodiments herein include utilities that facilitate the substantially flat and aligned mounting of optical tape segments on testing drums to increase testing accuracy of the tape segments. In this regard, a drum for testing optical tape media is disclosed having a substantially planar portion onto which first and second ends of an optical tape segment may be mounted to thereby secure the entire tape segment around an outer testing surface of the drum. Also disclosed is fixture that may be used to precisely mount and secure the tape segment over the outer mounting surface of a drum in a manner that reduces axial run-out and wrinkling of the optical tape.
