A hydraulic oil well pumping arrangement employs a compensating type hydraulic pump, a directional valving arrangement and a proportioning valving arrangement. When the directional valve is energized, oil is directed to the rod end of the hydraulic cylinder. The rod or piston part of the hydraulic cylinder will then elevate until a first limit switch is actuated which then will de-energize the directional valve and send a current signal to the proportional valve. This current signal to the proportional valve forces it to open to a point at which the cylinder rod would extend at the desired velocity until it reaches a second limit switch. The second limit switch is near the bottom (for example, 1 foot, or 0.30 meters) of travel of the rod or piston. The current signal to the proportional valve is then decreased, creating a choking arrangement that forces the cylinder rod to decelerate. The cylinder rod then reaches another limit switch. Upon reaching the third limit switch, the signal is removed from the proportional valve so that it closes. This halts a draining of fluid from the hydraulic cylinder. At the same time, a voltage signal is sent to the directional valve opening it so that pump flow again travels from the pump to the hydraulic cylinder and once again elevates the rod and the connected pumping string or sucker rod.

One embodiment of the present invention provides a system that facilitates bulk lock-unbiasing for objects within an object-based computing system. The system maintains an epoch, which is a field containing a timestamp, for a biasable object class and each instance of the biasable object class. If the epoch for the biasable object class matches the epoch for a specific instance of the biasable object class, the system knows that any bias for that specific instance is currently valid. When the system receives a signal to perform a bulk lock-unbiasing operation for instances of the biasable object class, it responds by stopping all threads in the object-based computing system at a safe point. Then, the system performs a bulk lock-unbiasing operation for unlocked instances of the biasable object class by incrementing the epoch for the biasable object class and by incrementing corresponding epochs for locked instances of the biasable object class.

System-accessible frequency measuring circuits and procedures permit on-chip testing of the oscillators and provide test results observable off chip via LSSD scan paths. This allows a rapid ensemble of ring oscillators in a standard ASIC test flow without the need for on chip analog test equipment (the test apparatus has effectively been created on device and can be digitally configured, operated and read). Frequency measuring logic that can 1) functionally operate to measure the frequency of the ring oscillators; 2) participate in traditional logical tests such as LSSD and LBIST to verify that the circuit is manufactured correctly and is likely to operate and 3) operate in a special ring-oscillator test mode, that allows the logic to operate on a tester very similarly to the way it does functionally. In this mode, the frequency measuring logic can be scanned to a specific state, started by pulsing a digital I/O, and the measured analog value can be scanned out sometime later after the test has completed. Test interrogations are distributed on-chip through an LSSD shift register chain to individually evaluate each of a plurality of the oscillators.

A method for providing centralized user authorization to allow secure sign-on to a computer system is disclosed. In response to a user attempting to boot up a computer system, a message is sent to a trusted server by a hypervisor within the computer to request a new hard drive password for the computer system. If the user is not authorized to access the computer system, a packet is sent by the trusted server to instruct the hypervisor to stop any boot process on the computer system. If the user is authorized to access the computer system, a packet containing a partial hard drive password is sent by the trusted server to the computer system. The packet is then encrypted with a system public key by the computer system to yield the partial hard drive password. The computer system subsequently combines the partial hard drive password with a user password to generate a new complete hard drive password to continue with the boot process.

A file storage system can include a file manager that adaptively partitions memory to accommodate the storage of fragmented data information. The fragments, potentially of varying size, can be stored in a volume of memory that is partitioned to include a group of storage segments. In the event that a particular fragment is not sized to efficiently fit in a free storage segment, the segment can be further subdivided to accommodate a fragment. In this way, a segment allotted for storage of data information can be adaptively subdivided into a smaller group of storage sub-segments. These sub-segments and yet potentially smaller storage partitions of the sub-segments can then be used to store additional fragments of a related stream of data. Based on this technique, portions of a logical stream of data information can be stored in the segments that vary in size. Meta data associated with the stored fragments can be used to facilitate reconstruction of a file or data stream.

A host computer system obtains a request for an aggregated view of content in a computer network corresponding to a criterion. The host computer system queries networked computer systems to identify data objects according to the criterion. Each responding computer system provides an identification set of specified data objects that are stored at the responding computer to the host computer systems. The host computer system merges the identification sets to form the aggregated view of content to a user. If a specified data object is replicated to networked computers, the host computer system provides one instance of the specified data object in the query result. Consequently, concurrent utilization of file synchronization and the aggregated view of data objects are facilitated. If a specified data object is stored at the host computer system, the host computer system blocks querying of networked computers about the specified data object.

To provide data from a database in response to an application query, the database is queried an initial time to provide a first set of data. For example, a “fast first page” may be requested, by requesting that all data which might appear on a first page to be displayed is obtained from the database first. After this, one or more subsequent asynchronous queries obtain the remaining information responsive to the query. Or, certain columns from the database (“spine columns”) may be requested in the initial query of the database, and the rest of the data requested subsequently. Thus, information needed to make an initial presentation to a user can be obtained first, and other information filled in subsequently.

In a preferred embodiment, the invention dynamically generates content and presentation to a user by modifying conventional content, e.g. rendering, restructuring, filtering, or supplementing such content, based on information, e.g. annotations, stored in a database. The invention, referred to as the Meta-Web, allows a user at a Web browser, which may be any standard Web browser supported by a standard computing platform, to posit a query which is routed to a Meta-Web server. The Meta-Web server returns search results to the Web browser and the user may then explore the results, for example by clicking on a URL in the search results. The results returned to the user are produced after the Meta-Web server forwards the query to a search engine. The search engine then returns the results to the Meta-Web server. Unique to the invention is the provision of a registry 14 which also receives search results and/or other information from the Meta-Web server, and that accumulates knowledge, meta-knowledge that was created at a time of entry of such knowledge, and meta-knowledge in the form of one or more annotations that accumulate over time, where the annotations include any of, but are not limited to, usefulness of said knowledge, additional user opinions, certifications of veracity of said knowledge, commentary by users, and connections between the knowledge and other units of knowledge. The Meta-Web server either combines both the search results and information from the registry, or operates upon the search results in accordance with information contained in the registry. The search results are augmented or modified by the registry under control of the Meta-Web server, which then builds a results page. The results pages is then forwarded to the user's Web browser.

A front-end electronic data interface system, known as the ‘Invoice Processing Approval and Storage System (IPASS), comprises a contractor or buyer's server computer accessible by the internet and adapted for storing an IPASS software which interfaces between a traditional accounts payable system and a subcontractor/supplier entity that generates an invoice. The IPASS System will automatically update the traditional accounts payable system with invoice information when a fax or scan of a subcontractor or supplier invoice is received without the need for manual keying of the invoice information, automatically seek any necessary approvals for payment of the invoice, and automatically record a payment of the invoice. The IPASS System will temporarily store an image of the invoice in an invoice image depository prior to archival storage. As a result, the subcontractor/supplier can seek status of payment of the invoice by accessing the invoice image depository. The subcontractor/supplier can access the invoice image depository by accessing the internet and overcoming a firewall in the IPASS System, the firewall being overcome by supplying a required subcontractor/supplier userid and identifying number.

A method for enabling two individual consumers to complete a transaction that includes payment from one consumer (the payor, or buyer) to another consumer (the payee, or seller). An intermediary typically operates the service over a computer network of nodes, such as the Internet. The buyer has the convenience of paying through a variety of different payment instruments. Likewise, the seller has the convenience of receiving payment through a variety of different disbursement instruments. For a fee, the intermediary collects the payment from the buyer and pays the seller. Although the intermediary may receive payment from the buyer before the intermediary transfers the payment to the seller, the intermediary may choose to pay the seller before receiving payment from the buyer. In this case, the intermediary assumes the risk of nonpayment by the buyer. Alternatively, the intermediary may pay a third party that specializes in processing transactions for the payment instrument chosen by the buyer to assume the risk of nonpayment by the buyer. In this case, the intermediary receives a promise of payment from the third party before the intermediary pays the seller. Such a promise of payment from the third party is referred to as an authorization.

A system and method enhance a buyer's performance by gathering information, presenting to sellers sophisticated buyers who do not pay more than the minimum and indicating to sellers when they are competitive, influencing them to lower prices. The system operates through a web site and creates a major web portal where a consumer obtains advice about prices of just about anything and initiates transactions using various services provided by the system. Fictitious user names are generated and used by the system to work with different sellers to generate and store specific quotes. This information is later used to purchase goods on behalf of buyers who do not want to reveal their identities. I addition, the system can also uncover hidden fee structures associated with sellers and businesses.

An embodiment of the present invention provides a method for automatically translating text. First, a conceptual representation space is generated based on source-language documents and target-language documents, wherein respective terms from the source-language and target-language documents have a representation in the conceptual representation space. Second, a new source-language document is represented in the conceptual representation space, wherein a subset of terms in the new source-language document is represented in the conceptual representation space, such that each term in the subset has a representation in the conceptual representation space. Then, a term in the new source-language document is automatically translated into a corresponding target-language term based on a similarity between the representation of the term and the representation of the corresponding target-language term.
