A valve gate piston assembly, in an injection molding system, is positioned in a staggered arrangement such that one piston assembly overlaps that of another valve gate piston assembly thereby minimizing an overall centerline pitch between said piston assemblies. Such a superposed layout of piston assemblies enables larger diameter pistons to occupy a smaller footprint than would be realized should the same piston assemblies be positioned side by side. The use of relatively larger diameter pistons results in an increased force available, for the same input air pressure, to actuate the pistons and valve stems attached thereto, resulting in a higher valve stem closing force. A staggered piston assembly layout also allows independent air circuits to control each piston separately. A combination of multiple piston assemblies may be configured in such a staggered, overlapping array.

Systems, methods, apparatus and software can make use of standard input/output (I/O) interface commands to make information about virtual storage devices available to clients of those virtual storage devices. Where the storage virtualization is carried out using a switch, router, or other storage network appliance, the information about virtual devices is stored (and in many cases determined and/or processed) local to the device. Applications operating on the storage clients can conveniently access the information using I/O interface commands and need not have access to some or all of the software or functionality that virtualizes the storage.

Input/output processing is facilitated by reducing communications between input/output communications adapters and control units during input/output processing. The number of exchanges and sequences between an input/output communications adapter and control unit is reduced by sending a plurality of commands from the adapter to the control unit as a single entity for execution by the control unit. The control unit executes the commands and provides the data, if any, in one sequence. The control unit relieves the adapter of the responsibility of tracking state of the individual commands and is able to calculate precise measurement data relating to execution of the commands.

A method for classifying an incoming packet. The method includes maintaining a database associated with patterns of fields, where the fields can be network addresses. The database can be developed by mapping each pattern to a unique numeric identifier. The number of unique numeric identifiers is equal to the number of patterns, and the size of each unique numeric identifier is substantially smaller than the field of each pattern. The database can be further developed by determining a range of one or more of the unique numeric identifiers to be associated with each pattern. The range for each pattern can be bounded by a minimum unique numeric identifier and a maximum unique numeric identifier. The method also includes using a field of the incoming packet to determine an associated identifier for that field, where the associated identifier is equal to one of the unique numeric identifiers. The associated identifier can then be matched with one or more of the ranges for the patterns, and the method can then determine how to process the incoming packet.

A method is disclosed for distribution of resources to network nodes in a decentralized data network. In at least one embodiment of the method keywords, which are allocated to digital resources, are mapped onto digital bit sequences. These bit sequences are modified, with the subsequent bits after a predetermined bit position, preferably being replaced by random bits. A mapping onto bit sequences is then undertaken with these modified bit sequences, with each network node being responsible for a specific range of values of indices. The resource will then be allocated the index which is produced by the mapping. The mapping in this case can be selected so that a wildcard search according to keywords is guaranteed. The outstanding feature of the method is that the resources are distributed evenly in the decentralized network and at the same time a fast wildcard search according to truncated keywords is made possible.
