A desalination system in the form of a submerged gas evaporator that includes a vessel, a gas delivery tube partially disposed within the vessel to deliver a gas into the vessel and a fluid inlet that provides a fluid to the vessel at a rate sufficient to maintain a controlled constant level of fluid within the vessel. A weir is disposed within the vessel adjacent the gas delivery tube to form a first fluid circulation path between a first weir end and a wall of the vessel and a second fluid circulation path between a second weir end and an upper end of the vessel. During operation, gas introduced through the tube mixes with the fluid and the combined gas and fluid flow at a high rate with a high degree of turbulence along the first and second circulation paths defined around the weir, thereby promoting vigorous mixing and intimate contact between the gas and the fluid. This turbulent flow develops a significant amount of interfacial surface area between the gas and the fluid resulting in a reduction of the required residence time of the gas within the fluid to achieve thermal equilibrium which leads to a more efficient and complete evaporation. Additionally, vapor exiting the submerged gas evaporator is condensed in a condensing unit thus precipitating vapor into a liquid for removal.

This invention relates to gravity-driven car racing, specifically an improved electrical timing start switch for race tracks such as used in the popular Pinewood Derby race. The present invention eliminates the imprecise coupling between the mechanical release of start posts and the subsequent generation of an electrical timer start signal by a separate micro switch-based contact. The micro switch is eliminated and the start post trigger release mechanism itself is insulated and wired as a normally closed contact that will essentially immediately start the race timer when activated. The difference in the time the start posts begin to move and the time the trigger “switch” activates the timer is then reduced to an extremely short and precise time. This time is that for mechanical movement propagation from the trigger release point to the start posts, only about 20 millionths of a second for a one lane track.

Controlling rate of resource consumptions improves manageability of resources in relation to the entities consuming the resource. A consumer's resource consumption behavior can be controlled with a mechanism that throttles its resource requests to conform to a threshold rate, such as a resource consumption rate. A set of one or more computations tracks a consumption measurement variable over a given time interval, such as number of resource requests for a given resource within the last 5 seconds. When a resource request is received, the set of computations determine whether servicing the resource request would exceed the threshold rate. If the threshold rate would be exceeded, then the computations sleep until servicing the resource request would not exceed the threshold rate.

Provided is a method of optimizing statistical timing of an integration circuit, the method including applying subtle changes of mean arrival times with respect to each of nodes in a timing graph of an integrated circuit to ADD operations and MAX operations of a block-based statistical static timing analysis (SSTA) method and approximating the corresponding operations; generating Jacobian matrixes between each node by using matrix components including differential coefficients calculated during linear approximation of the operations; calculating changed arrival time values of the circuit by propagating the Jacobian matrixes from a virtual sink node to a virtual source node; and calculating timing yield criticalities, which are variances of timing yield of the circuit due to subtle changes of mean arrival times with respect to each node, based on values obtained by the propagation. Accordingly, timing yield criticality is calculated based on linear approximation of ADD operations and MAX operations of statistical static timing analysis (SSTA), and thus the calculation complexity is linear with respect to the total number of nodes, and critical nodes significantly affecting the timing yield of a circuit can be extracted more accurately.

Generating reference structural patterns representing hierarchized data, by extracting primary structural patterns. Each primary structural pattern represents a set of pieces of structural information. The degree of use of extracted primary structural patterns is determined based on of the number of hierarchized pieces of data able to be represented by the primary structural patterns. Primary structural patterns are grouped based on the degree of use and a distance between primary structural patterns. One reference structural pattern per group is determined, the reference structural pattern representing the primary structural patterns of the associated group. The degree of use favors grouping of a primary structural pattern with other primary structural patterns even if it has numerous structural differences if the primary structural pattern has few occurrences, and favors creation of a separate group containing the primary structural pattern even if it has few structural differences if the primary structural pattern has many occurrences.

A live caching system is described herein that reduces the burden on origin servers for serving live content. In response to receiving a first request that results in a cache miss, the system forwards the first request to the next tier while “holding” other requests for the same content. If the system receives a second request while the first request is pending, the system will recognize that a similar request is outstanding and hold the second request by not forwarding the request to the origin server. After the response to the first request arrives from the next tier, the system shares the response with other held requests. Thus, the live caching system allows a content provider to prepare for very large events by adding more cache hardware and building out a cache server network rather than by increasing the capacity of the origin server.

A database intrusion detection system (DIDS) automatically trains itself to account for changes to the database. The DIDS monitors upstream queries sent to the database and downstream data provided in response to the queries. The DIDS classifies an upstream query as legitimate or anomalous. If the query is anomalous, the DIDS determines whether the anomaly resulted from a change in the database by performing one or more tests. One test determines whether the query references new fields or tables. Another test determines the frequency at which the query is received, and/or whether the query is received from multiple sources. A third test determines whether the query accesses sensitive information. Together, the results of these tests describe whether the query should be classified as anomalous or legitimate.

One exemplary method collects information about data objects in a computer system and maps each of the data objects to a service level objective for defining a level of data indexing to be applied to the data objects. The level of data indexing may define whether or not a file will be indexed, and to what extent the file will be indexed. Then, the method orchestrates the data indexing according to the service level objective of each of the data objects. The present invention allows a user to customize data indexing on a file by file basis so that only those files in need of indexing are indexed.

Document, such as web pages of a domain, are annotated to facilitate extracting structured information from the documents. The documents are clustered. Each cluster is such that the documents within that cluster are similar to each other at least with respect to a first threshold, such as according to a shingling metric, where the first threshold is an 8/8 shingling match. There is at least one overlap cluster, each overlap cluster including at least one of the plurality of clusters such that documents of the at least one cluster included in that overlap cluster are similar to each other at least with respect to a second threshold that is lower than the first threshold. A particular overlap cluster is designated, as is a particular cluster of the particular overlap cluster. For the particular designated cluster, an obtained annotation is transferred to other clusters included in the designated particular overlap cluster.

Searching computer-accessible content can be described as the utilization of an automated process to determine occurrences of where a sought-for concept is referred to in natural language discourse. Concept-based search refers to the reliable identification, within computer-accessible content that represents natural language discourse, of instances in which a particular pinnacle concept “C” is referenced. References to pinnacle concepts are not amenable to detection by the use of keywords. For each pinnacle concept “C,” whose reference is to be determined, a set of linguistic features can be compiled that is referred to herein as a “concept feature set.” In general, it is desirable for a concept feature set to be “complete.” A definition of completeness is presented. Concept-based search can be used in conjunction with keyword-based search. When using concept-based search with keyword-based search, it can be useful, from an efficiency perspective, to divide the process into two phases: an indexing phase and a search phase.
