The present invention is a process for designing the internal cooling passages with these small scale features using a meshed solid model in a FEA program to perform the CFD analysis. Instead of modeling these small scale features (cooling holes, impingement holes, and turbulators) in the meshed FEA solid model, most of the small scale features are replaced by grid extraneous source terms in which the small scale feature is eliminated from the solid model and replaced with point source terms. The source terms can duplicate the effect of the feature within the analysis without requiring the complex analysis that such features would require in the analysis. Text files for each of the cooling holes, impingement holes and turbulators are inputted and then translated into grid extraneous source terms that include position, energy, and continuity. A conjugate CFD solver performs an analysis and produces new values for the thermal and boundary conditions.

The present invention provides four essentially equal and (generally) evenly spaced constraints on the ball. It is the equivalent of a ball and socket joint in which the “socket” is composed of four small constraining pads of equal size and equally spaced around the surface of the ball or sphere. If a sphere is constrained by four equidistant points, each point will exert the same amount of force on the sphere. If additional pressure is applied to one point, the pressure exerted by the other points will rise to match this increased pressure. The effect of constraining a smooth ball by four equidistant points is to create the equivalent of a ball and socket joint in which the force required to rotate the ball at a particular rate is about the same in any direction. The ball is constrained by four equidistant points such that the relative movement between the ball and housing is smooth and predictable in any direction.

Techniques for grouping events in a computing system are provided. A registrant sends, to a database server, a request to register to receive a single notification based the occurrence of multiple events that satisfy certain criteria, referred to as grouping attributes. Such registrations are referred to as grouping registrations. An eventing mechanism in the database server receives and maintains grouping registrations. When an event is received, the eventing mechanism determines whether the event has been registered for in an active grouping registration, i.e., one whose start time has passed but whose completion criteria are not yet satisfied. If so, then the eventing mechanism updates grouping data associated with the grouping registration. When the completion criteria of a grouping registration are satisfied, the eventing mechanism sends a notification to the registrant and/or other intended recipient(s). The notification may provide a summary of all the events in the group or provide details about a single event from the group, such as the latest event.

A preload library partitions certain files into segments and transforms the data of the files on a segment by segment basis, each independently of the other. The transformed segments are then stored as part of a transformed file, with each segment corresponding to a bag containing a chunk (of transformed data) and a gap which permits the chunks to grow when data of the segment is modified during a write operation. The bags are followed by a chunk map which contains metadata defining the compressed version of each segment. The preload library intercepts system calls from applications to the OC specifying access to specific segments of a transformed file. The preload library identifies the chunks corresponding to the specified segments, retrieves and reverses the transform on those chunks and passes the data to the application requesting it. For a system call to write data to certain segments, the data is modified and re-transformed by the library before being written back to disk. A preload library provides improved random access into transformed (e.g. compressed, encrypted, etc.) files.

Described is a technology by which topics corresponding to web pages are used in relevance ranking of those pages. Topics are extracted from each web page of a set of web pages that are found via a query. For example, text such as nouns may be extracted from the title, anchor texts and URL of a page, and used as the topics. The extracted topics from a page are used to compute a relevance score for that page based on an evaluation of that page's topics against the query. The pages are then ranked relative to one another based at least in part on the relevance score computed for each page, such as by determining a matching level for each page, ranking pages by each level, and ranking pages within each level. Also described is training a model to perform the relevance scoring and/or ranking.

A minimized journaling mechanism stores minimized journal data in a format that allows for display and outputting the journal data in human-readable form. When a change to a record occurs, instead of writing only the changed bytes, all of the bytes in each field that changed are written to the journal, along with all of the bytes in each field selected to be always journaled. A default object is created with default data in all of the fields. When the journal entry needs to be output in human-readable form, the default object is read, and the minimized journal entry is then overlaid on the default object. The result is an object that contains default data in all non-selected fields that were not changed, with the journal data in all fields and that did change and in all fields that were selected to always be journaled.

Techniques are described for generating predictions of future traffic conditions at multiple future times, such as by using probabilistic techniques to assess various input data while repeatedly producing future time series predictions for each of numerous road segments (e.g., in a real-time manner based on changing current conditions for a network of roads in a given geographic area). In some situations, one or more predictive Bayesian models and corresponding decision trees are automatically created for use in generating the future traffic condition predictions for each geographic area of interest, such as based on observed historical traffic conditions for those geographic areas. Predicted future traffic condition information may then be used in a variety of ways to assist in travel and for other purposes, such as to plan optimal routes through a network of roads based on predictions about traffic conditions for the roads at multiple future times.

Unscheduled wireless communication with a medical device is achieved by operating a receiver of the medical device in a series of modes. Each mode provides an increasingly selective evaluation of received RF energy. The receiver, when operating in a first mode, is capable of detecting the presence of RF energy transmitted from a communicating device. The receiver, when operating in a second mode, consumes more energy than the first mode and analyzes the RF energy to determine whether it contains the appropriate type of modulation. When operating in a third mode, the receiver consumes more energy than the second mode, and operates the full receiver to begin communication with the communicating device. The receiver opens a communication session after the RF energy has passed the evaluation by the series of modes to receive an unscheduled communication.
