A horizontally mounted connector deckplate for swimming pools to connect swim timing devices and other devices with electrical contacts with potential difference mounted on slopes integrated into the body of the deckplate. These integrated slopes cause corrosive pool water that is splashed on the deckplate, which creates water bridges between electrical contacts, to flow off through gravity, overcoming the water surface tension. Therefore electrolytic currents through the water bridges are greatly reduced, reducing corrosion of the electrical contacts of the deckplate. In addition corrosion resistant materials such as titanium are used for the electrical contacts.

A drag/free spool controller incorporated into a fishing reel that has a signal generator mechanically attached to the reel. When the spool spins the signal generator produces a voltage signal, and after a pre-determined number of rotations, the generated signal is compared to a pre-determined value to determine if the spooling corresponds to a fish strike. When the generated voltage signal exceeds the pre-determined value, indicating a fish strike, a solenoid attached to the reel is actuated to disengage the drag mechanism, placing the reel into a free spool position. This action allows the fish to run with the bait while the angler repositions himself to manually engage the drag to set the hook. If after a pre-determined interval the angler fails to manually engage the drag, the solenoid will do so automatically.

An apparatus and a method for synchronizing a Security Association (SA) state as SA information of a mobile communication terminal is lost are provided. In the method, an IPSec tunnel is established by performing an SA procedure with a server, and a secure port is obtained. When receiving a feedback signal from a server, the connection device sends a status signal to the controlling device. The status signal triggers the controlling device to control a corresponding switch to disconnect and then connect the server to the power source. The controlling module controls the switches to turn each server on and off for a predetermined number of times and controls the display device to display a warning when a server is not working normally.

Embodiments relate systems and methods for detecting machine faults in a network using acoustic monitoring. In embodiments, one or more servers, clients, or other machines in a managed network can have a microphone or other acoustic sensor integrated into motherboard or other hardware. The sensor can sample acoustic signals from inside or near the machine, and can digitize that data. The resulting set of acoustic data can be transmitted to a management server or other destination for analysis of the operating sounds related to that machine. For instance, the acoustic data can be analyzed to detect indications of a failed or failing hard drive, for instance by detecting spindle whine or head movement noises, or a failed or failing power supply based on other sounds. The management server can respond to potential fault events for instance by issuing configuration commands, such as instructions to power down the malfunctioning component.

A nonvolatile storage or memory device is accessed over a memory bus. The memory bus has an electrical interface typically used for volatile memory devices. A controller coupled to the bus sends synchronous data access commands to the nonvolatile memory device, and reads the response from the device bus based on an expected timing of a reply from the nonvolatile memory device. The controller determines the expected timing based on when the command was sent, and characteristics of the nonvolatile memory device. The controller may not need all the electrical signal lines available on the memory bus, and could issue data access commands to different groups of nonvolatile memory devices over different groups of electrical signal lines. The memory bus may be available and configured for either use with a memory controller and volatile memory devices, or a storage controller and nonvolatile memory devices.

A method comprises a system comprising a host device coupled to a first remote device actively operating according to a state diagram that the host device and all remote devices follow during operation of the system. The method further comprises powering up a second remote device while the host device and first remote device are actively operating according to the state diagram. The second remote device determines whether to initialize to a standard protocol or to an advanced protocol. Upon determining to initialize to the advanced protocol, the second remote device then waits for a synchronization point sequence.

Replay attacks in an encrypted file system are prevented by generating a session key and providing the session key to one or more drive managers and an encrypted file system process. When a drive request is received by the encrypted file system process the drive request is encrypted using the generated session key. The encrypted drive request is sent to a drive manager. The drive manager attempts to decrypt the drive request using the session key. If the encrypted drive request is successfully decrypted, then the drive manager performs the requested operation. On the other hand, if the request is not decrypted successfully, then the request is not performed by the drive manager. Drive managers can include both disk device drivers and a logical volume managers.

A biometric authentication device performs authentication of a user based on biometric information. In the biometric authentication device, a registry information storage stores pre-registered biometric information as registry information. An acceptance value determiner determines a verification acceptance value used for authentication, based on quality of the registry information with regard to reliability of characterizing an individual. An authentication information acquirer obtains biometric information of a user as authentication information. A similarity calculator compares the authentication information of the user with the registry information and calculates similarity between the authentication information and the registry information. An authenticator identifies whether the user is a registrant corresponding to the registry information, based on the similarity and the verification acceptance value.

A lock system includes a locker device and a USB key. The locker device includes a first USB connector, a password input unit and a control unit. The USB key includes a second USB connector for connection to the first USB connector, a memory unit, and a decrypting unit. The memory unit is configured for storing a password. The decrypting unit includes a password identification unit configured for determining whether a password inputted into the password input unit matches the password stored in the memory unit and producing a decrypting instruction if the inputted password matches the stored password. The locker device is configured for transmitting the inputted password to the USB key. The USB key is configured for transmitting the decrypted instruction to the locker device through the connected first and second USB connectors to enable the control unit to unlock the locker device.

A scanned document management system for managing a paper document in a state in which the paper document is scanned and transformed into electronic data, registers an attribute of the document by a manager; when printing out the document, registers identification information of the document with correspondence to the attribute, issues a document authentication representing certificate including the identification information, coding the document authentication representing certificate and prints out the same with including the same in a document image; and, when scanning the document, extracts the coded document authentication representing certificate from the document, obtains the attribute from the identification information included in the document authentication representing certificate to determine whether or not authentication is possible therewith, and allows transfer of the document image thus scanned, when the authentication is possible.

In one embodiment, a wireless bridge for wireless to TCP/IP based communication is provided. The wireless bridge can be with reduced functional devices (RFDs) in a star topology network acting as a network access device (NAD). Another embodiment can be with fully functional devices (FFDs) in a peer-to-peer topology network also capable of operating as a NAD. The network address device includes a processor with memory; a radio frequency transceiver front end communicating with the processor; an antenna coupled to the front end; and a power source providing power to the processor and front end wherein the processor with memory contains computer instructions for executing IEEE 802.15.4 standard compliant operations; transmitting a network access device announcement (NADA) message representative of the initiation of passive network discovery to multiple end devices; determining whether a receiving/designated end device is network compliant; establishing communication with the compliant designated end device; and forwarding the NADA message to the designated end device.

A wireless communication system may acquire specific information including identification information from each of access points. The wireless communication system may select particular identification information corresponding to a particular access point among the one or more of access points. The wireless communication system may determine, by using the specific information acquired from the particular access point, whether the particular access point operates in accordance with a first or a second type of authentication protocol. The wireless communication system may cause a displaying unit to display a first type of setting screen if the particular access point operates in accordance with the first type of authentication protocol. The wireless communication system may cause the displaying unit to display a second type of setting screen, which is different from the first type of setting screen, if the particular access point operates in accordance with the second type of authentication protocol.
