An impedance synthesis method for fundamental and harmonic frequencies using multi section tuners, because of the huge amount of possible tuning permutations, employs a search strategy based on the minimization of an ERROR FUNCTION (EF), in two steps: in a first step a coarse calibration grid is generated and the raw area is found which allows an approximate solution to the tuning task at the fundamental frequency; then a fine impedance grid is generated around the first solution using calibrated and interpolated points at all harmonic frequencies; a second search step, using the same EF, then allows fine tuning. Among the several, numerically found solutions, the most reliable one is selected based on a sensitivity criterion, which calculates the impedance change for a possible small error in repeatability of each tuning element and selects the one with the lowest sensitivity to element setting errors.

Power amplifier (PA), regardless of the process used for the manufacturing of its devices, suffers from a nonlinear output capacitance that has significant impact on various aspects of the PA performance. This output capacitance is dependent on the large output voltage swing. Accordingly a compensation capacitance is added at the output of the PA that has a behavior that is inverse respective of the output voltage of that of the output capacitance of the PA. Connecting the compensation capacitor in parallel to the PA output capacitance, results in a total capacitance that is the sum of the output capacitance and its compensation capacitance. The total output capacitance is therefore essentially stable throughout the output voltage swing.

The structures of reflective shields and methods of making such structures described enable reflection of light that has not be absorbed by photodiodes in image sensor devices and increase quantum efficiency of the photodiodes. Such structures can be applied (or used) for any image sensors to improve image quality. Such structures are particular useful for image sensors with smaller pixel sizes and for long-wavelength light (or rays), whose absorption length (or depth) could be insufficient, especially for backside illumination (BSI) devices. The reflective shields could double, or more than double, the absorption depth for light passing through the image sensors and getting reflected back to the photodiodes. Concave-shaped reflective shields have the additional advantage of directing reflected light toward the image sensors.

Treatment systems are described which uncouple the solids retention time (SRT) of the recycling bacteria from the wasting bacteria. Elevated recycling bacteria SRTs increase concentrations of nitrifying bacteria in the aeration basin and Anammox bacteria in the anoxic basin, improving nitrification and anaerobic ammonium oxidation. Fluorescence in situ hybridizations were used to identify and determine the abundance of nitrifying bacteria and Anammox bacteria (recycling bacteria) in freshly settled sludge of biological nutrient removal (BNR) secondary clarifiers. An uneven distribution was observed for recycling bacteria in two BNR systems. Settling patterns suggest microcolony formation processes are sensitive to the internal recycle rate, which allow for rapid recycling bacteria microcolony growth by increasing circulation of flocs through the aeration and anoxic basins. Uncoupling the SRT enhances aeration and/or anoxic basin utilization and reduces the overall hydraulic residence time.

When it is determined that a driver requests a deceleration of a vehicle (t1), a motor torque is kept to be zero. A value in the deceleration direction (deceleration torque stabilized value A) at which an engine torque is stabilized after it changes from a value in the acceleration direction to the value in the deceleration direction is predicted. Before the engine torque reaches the deceleration torque stabilized value A, the clutch torque is adjusted to be the deceleration torque stabilized value A. When the engine torque reaches the deceleration torque stabilized value A (t3), the clutch torque is gradually decreased from the deceleration torque stabilized value A, and a regeneration torque is gradually increased from zero. A decreasing slope of a vehicle torque is kept constant over a period (t1 to t3) when the vehicle torque decreases. Therefore, the vehicle can smoothly be decelerated during the deceleration of the vehicle. Thus, during the deceleration of a hybrid vehicle with clutch, the clutch torque and the regeneration torque are appropriately adjusted, whereby the vehicle can smoothly be decelerated.
