The Self-Assembly System is composed of a series of units that take an external force that activates an individual state in each unit and sequentially folds/rotates/expands to form a rigid 3-dimensional structure. The system self-assembles from a flexible linear chain or 2-dimensional grid pattern into a rigid 3-dimensional structure, simply by adding an external energy source. The mechanism and placement of each unit provides the sequence of fold angles that is activated by external energy. When the system is assembled, unit-by-unit, or pre-manufactured as a single linked strand, the user is actually “programming” the folding sequence, much like our body's protein strands, that take external energy and fold in a 3-dimensional structure. This demonstrates that structures can be built from 1-dimensional or 2-dimensional flexible geometry and self-assemble into 3-dimensional rigid geometry without manual assembly or construction, simply through an external means of energy.

A viable strategy to enhance the bioavailability of poorly soluble drugs is to use amorphous solids in place of the more commonly used crystalline solids in pharmaceutical formulations. However, amorphous solids are physically meta-stable and tend to revert back to their crystalline counterpart. An effective approach to stabilizing an amorphous drug against crystallization is to disperse it in a polymer matrix. The drug's solubility in the chosen polymer defines the upper limit of drug loading without any risk of crystallization. Measuring the solubility of a drug in a polymer has been a scientific and technological challenge because the high viscosity of polymers makes achieving solubility equilibrium difficult and because pharmaceutically important drug/polymer dispersions are glasses, which undergo structural relaxation over time. The invention provides a method based on Differential Scanning calorimetry (DSC) for measuring the solubility of crystalline drugs in polymeric matrices. The method relies on the detection of the dissolution endpoint of a drug/polymer mixture prepared by cryomilling.

The invention uses three-dimensional printing techniques to lay down a three-dimensional black and white grid (or “4-dimensional” grid, if color is used). To read and decode a three-dimensional bar-code, a light-field camera is used to capture the whole three-dimensional structure and the focus levels are then determined for a predetermined number of vertical levels. Adding color adds another degree of freedom (dimension) in the number and difficulty of encoding and decoding the three-dimensional bar-codes. These bar-codes cannot be simply made or copied, providing a level of security thereby.

A peer-to-peer (P2P) application which can be applied to TVs. The P2P application promotes a social networking aspect by allowing devices connecting to either the home mesh network and/or Internet to share contents and create common-interest channels. The P2P application does not require support from network infrastructure (e.g., no central servers), and consequently is extremely cost-effective and easy to deploy. The distributed nature of this system allows users to join or leave the network at will. It takes advantage of the local home mesh network connectivity, or existing Internet connections. A participant that tunes into a broadcast on an Internet channel is not only downloading a video stream, but also uploading it to other participants watching the program. Data mining systems capture user preferences and create personalized Internet channels on the TV using the P2P network.

In one aspect, the method includes: displaying a media program on a media display device; indicating, while the media program is being displayed, an item associated with the media program is available for purchase; receiving authentication information of a prospective purchaser of the item; and completing a purchase of the item in response to the authentication information. In another aspect, the method includes: receiving, from a media display device, a user authentication request that contains user login credentials; granting the user authentication request in response to the user login credentials; and sending an authentication permission to the media display device; wherein the receiving and the sending are each performed such that the user login credentials and the authentication permission are sent through one or more intermediate hops without being inspected by any of the intermediate hops.

Device identification techniques using identifiable device functions are described. In one or more implementations, data is obtained that describes functions of a device that are identifiable for use in conjunction with a computing device and a device identifier (ID) is computed for the peripheral device based on the identifiable device functions.

A method of processing raw events to typed events, each raw event including data items containing data values, the method includes: providing a library of event type objects, each event type object relating to a given event type and including attributes of given data types, the attributes in each event type object structured according to a given structure; for each raw event, determining an event type object in the library which meets: (i) each of the data items in the raw event maps to an attribute in the event type object, and (ii) a data value in each of the data items is of a data type detected to match the given data type of the mapped attribute; and generating a typed event from each raw event, the typed event including the data values of the raw event structured according to the structure of the determined event type object.

A method and system for aggregating installation scopes within an isolation environment, where the method includes first defining an isolation environment for encompassing an aggregation of installation scopes. Associations are created between a first application and a first installation scope. When the first application requires the presence of a second application within the isolation environment for proper execution, an image of the required second application is mounted onto a second installation scope and an association between the second application and the second installation scope is created. Another association is created between the first installation scope and the second installation scope, an this third association is created within a third installation scope. Each of the first, second, and third installation scopes are stored and the first application is launched into the defined isolation environment.
