MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are a class of small noncoding RNAs that have important regulatory roles in multicellular organisms. The public miRNA database contains 321 human miRNA sequences, 234 of which have been experimentally verified. To explore the possibility that additional miRNAs are present in the human genome, we have developed an experimental approach called miRNA serial analysis of gene expression (miRAGE) and used it to perform the largest experimental analysis of human miRNAs to date. Sequence analysis of 273,966 small RNA tags from human colorectal cells allowed us to identify 200 known mature miRNAs, 133 novel miRNA candidates, and 112 previously uncharacterized miRNA* forms. To aid in the evaluation of candidate miRNAs, we disrupted the Dicer locus in three human colorectal cancer cell lines and examined known and novel miRNAs in these cells. The first CT image thus iteratively corrected is used to extract local measured projection data in association with the second reconstruction range. A second CT image is reconstructed in the second reconstruction range and the second CT image is iteratively corrected so that the extracted local measured projection data becomes equal to the second calculated projection data that is obtained from the second CT image according to the projection calculation.

A decoding method decodes a base stream generated by encoding a first image signal of a first view and a dependent stream generated by encoding a second image signal of a second view. The method includes detecting, on the basis of a dependent delimiter indicating a picture boundary between pictures in the dependent stream, the picture boundary in the dependent stream configured by inserting the dependent delimiter at the beginning of a picture in the dependent stream. Further, the method includes decoding the base stream and the dependent stream on the basis of the detected picture boundary in the dependent stream.

A transcoder that controls the amount of generated codes of an output stream toward a target bit rate without degradation of image quality. The transcoder decodes a first stream and encodes the decoded image again to thereby output a second stream. The transcoder calculates a distortion evaluation value from the image obtained by decoding the first stream and an image obtained by decoding the second stream. Assuming that a ratio between the distortion evaluation value and a total target distortion evaluation value is determined as a target distortion ratio, a target setting bit rate of a second stream in the period can be obtained by multiplying a total target bit rate of the second stream by the target distortion ratio. Alternatively, the target setting bit rate can be obtained by adjusting the target distortion ratio with an appropriate function and adding the target distortion ratio to the total target bit rate of the second stream.

An image decoding method is provided which includes reconstructing an intra prediction mode group indicator and a prediction mode index of a current block, constructing a first group using valid intra prediction modes of left and top blocks, and determining the intra prediction mode corresponding to the prediction mode index and the intra prediction mode group indicator. Therefore, by causing the first group to include modes having a high possibility of being equal to the prediction mode of the current block on the basis of the valid intra prediction modes of the left and top blocks of the current block and determining the intra prediction mode group indicator and the prediction mode index to be encoded using the first group, it is possible to reduce an amount of information of the intra prediction mode to be encoded.

A device for coding video data includes a video coder configured to: determine for a chroma transform block (TB) a sub-sampling format for the chroma TB; based on the sub-sampling format for the chroma TB, identify one or more corresponding luma TBs; determine, for each of the one or more corresponding luma TBs, if the corresponding luma TB is coded using a transform skip mode; and, based on a number of the one or more corresponding luma TBs coded using the transform skip mode being greater than or equal to a threshold value, determine that the chroma TB is coded in the transform skip mode.

An electronic device for sending a message is described. The electronic device includes a processor and instructions stored in memory that is in electronic communication with the processor. The electronic device determines whether a picture is a random access point (RAP) picture. The electronic device also determines whether the picture is associated with a broken link access (BLA) with decodable leading pictures (DLP) network access layer (NAL) unit type if the picture is a RAP picture. The electronic device further generates a message including a RAP coded picture buffer (CPB) parameter flag and an initial additional CPB removal delay parameter if the BLA with DLP NAL unit type is present. The electronic device additionally sends the message.

A combined depth map is generated for a monoscopic image based on a weighted combination of a color depth map, a spatial depth map, and a motion depth map for the image, each describing the depth of pixels in the image relative to the image plane. The color depth map determines the depth of pixels according to their color, the spatial depth map determines the depth of pixels according to their location in the image, and the motion depth map determines the depth of pixels according to their motion in the image. Each of the depth maps is associated with a weight that is used to generate the weighted combination. The weights are adaptive to account for variation between different monoscopic images.

A correction apparatus is provided with terminals which are connected in one-to-one correspondence with each of lens apparatuses and which transmit control signals to the lens apparatuses which are connected. A common control signal is transmitted from all of the terminals to the lens apparatuses which are connected with the terminals. Individual control signals are transmitted to the lens apparatuses, which are connected with the terminals, from all of the terminals or from the other terminals than any one terminal. The group of terminals are communicably connected with each other and mutually hold the common control signal and the individual control signals.

Described herein is a method for correcting defective depth values in depth map images. Defective values correspond to “noisy pixels” located on continuous flat surfaces and interpolated “flying pixels” located along an edge between a foreground object and a background object. The method comprising the steps of accessing a depth map of a scene which includes the foreground and background objects, detecting and identifying noisy and interpolated depth measurements within the depth map using a method, defining and applying a correction to each of the detected defective noisy and interpolated depth measurements using a specifically defined weighted correction factor. By providing the corrected defective depth values in depth map images, edges are sharpened in depth and continuous surfaces are flattened, enabling higher efficiency and robustness of further image processing.

In a surveillance system including a remote sensor apparatus and a portable receiver, a method is provided for collecting and processing data related to a surrounding environment of the remote sensor apparatus including image data for a scene external to the housing of the apparatus. The method includes receiving, at the processing unit, raw image data simultaneously from a plurality of image sensors as the raw image data is being captured by the plurality of image sensors. One or more light sources are placed around a wide-angle lens fitted to each of the image sensor. Infrared or near-infrared light emanating from the plurality of light sources is used in a dark environment. The method also includes processing, at the processing unit, the simultaneously received raw image data to generate pre-processed image data. The method further includes transmitting the pre-processed image data to the portable receiver using the wireless transceiver.
