The present invention discloses a microstructured discrimination device for separating hydrophobic-hydrophilic fluidic composites comprising particulate and/or fluids in a fluid flow. The discrimination is the result of surface energy gradients obtained by physically varying a textured surface and/or by varying surface chemical properties, both of which are spatially graded. Such surfaces discriminate and spatially separate particulate and/or fluids without external energy input. The device of the present invention comprises a platform having bifurcating microchannels arranged radially. The lumenal surfaces of the microchannels may have a surface energy gradient created by varying the periodicity of hierarchically arranged microstructures along a dimension. The surface energy gradient is varied in two regions. In one pre-bifurcation region the surface energy gradient generates a fluid flow. In the other post-bifurcation region, there is a difference in surface energy proximal to the bifurcation such that different flow fractions are divided into separate channels in response to different surface energy gradients in each of the post-bifurcation channels. Accordingly, fluids of different hydrophobicity and/or particulate of different hydrophobicity are driven into separate channels by a global minimization of the fluid system energy.

Security policies are made dependent on location of a device and the location of a device is determined and the appropriate security policy applied without providing the device's location to a server. A device determine its location and identifies a security policy identifier mapped to a zone including the location. The device requests the security policy corresponding to the identifier from a server and implements it. The device may also store a database of the security policies and implement them according to its location. Devices registered for a user evaluate whether locations detected for the devices correspond to impossible travel by the user. Objects encoding geolocation data of a device may be encrypted with a private key of the device and the public key of another to prevent access by an intermediary server.

Systems, methods, and instrumentalities may implement service-based discovery in a network, such as a 3GPP or 3GPP2 network. A Discovery Server may be used to query and find services offered by the network or by entities that interface with the network. Situational context information or policy information, or both, may be communicated to the discovery server so that the Discovery Server can provide context-aware and policy-based discovery services. The Discovery Server may be used to control which of the entities that interface with the network can discover one another. The Discovery Server may support queries based on, for example, the type of MTC entity, the type of services hosted on the entity, the availability times of the entity, types of protocols supported, levels of Quality of Service (QoS) supported, and MTC-IWF services.

Methods and systems are described herein for identifying a location of a user prior to sending a notification and/or tailoring notification delivery and/or receipts to a determined location of the user. In many contexts, the delivery or receipt time of these notifications is important. For example, the message may include time-sensitive information or may have been targeted based on delivering (or being received at) an optimal time. The system may determine a time zone identifier by recording a user's default or home location based on known account data and establishing a transaction data stream for identifying transactions that are outside of a radius of the default location. Upon detecting transactions outside the default location, the system may update an account of the user with a temporary location. The system may then determine a delay based on this temporary location.
