The present disclosure describes a method and apparatus that can be used to determine whether an object is in proximity of an electronic device. When an object is not in proximity to the electronic device, the arrangement of two sensors at different distances from the optical emitter results in a higher strength of a reflection signal received in the sensor closer to the optical emitter and a lower strength of a reflection signal received in the sensor further from the optical emitter. The system uses this difference in reflection signals to calculate a ratio between the signals that are being reflected to both sensors, and based on the ratio whether an object is in proximity to the electronic device.

A body floor (1) for an electric vehicle (2) has a battery frame (3) that receives battery modules (4). An interior cover (5) separates an interior (6) from the battery modules (4). At least one crossmember (7, 8) extends transverse to a vehicle longitudinal direction (9) and is on the battery side of the interior cover (5). A seat attachment (10) for connecting a vehicle seat (11) is arranged on the interior side of the interior cover (5). The battery modules (4) are attached to the crossmember (7, 8) by the battery frame (3), and the body floor (1) is a supporting component of the body structure of a vehicle (2). The seat attachment (10) is attached to the body floor (1) on the battery side of the interior cover (5). With this construction, the vehicle seat is low while simultaneously arranging battery modules below the vehicle seat.

An axle assembly for frame rail vehicles is described herein. The axle assembly includes a first axle shaft and a second axle shaft orientated along a first axis of rotation. A first electric machine is orientated along a second axis of rotation and a second electric machine is spaced from the first electric machine and orientated along a third axis of rotation. A differential gear set is disposed about the first axis of rotation and is coupled to and driven by a common gear reduction to transfer rotational torque from the first and second electric machines to the first and second axle shafts. A speed change mechanism is coupled between the common gear reduction and the differential gear set to change the rotational torque transferred to the first and second axle shafts.

A method for defrosting an external heat exchanger, operated as an air heat pump evaporator, of a cooling system for a motor vehicle. The cooling system includes a refrigerant compressor connected to a primary and secondary section; an external heat exchanger; an evaporator; a heating register; a primary section valve which is closed in the air heat pump operation; and a secondary section valve which is open in the air heat pump operation. The method includes closing of the secondary section valve; opening of the primary section valve, so that refrigerant flows directly from the refrigerant compressor to the external heat exchanger; and setting an inlet-side pressure level of the refrigerant on the external heat exchanger to a target pressure which corresponds to a condensation temperature (Tkond) of the refrigerant in the range: 2° C.≤Tkond≤20° C., in particular 4° C.≤Tkond≤10° C.

Driven lift axles and associated systems and components are provided for use on heavy duty trucks, trailers, and/or other vehicles. Driven lift axle systems may include one or more motors mounted to the lift axle to provide torque to drive one or more wheels of the lift axle. Various mounting configurations of such motors are possible, such as arranging a motor on the axle to provide torque at a conventional driveshaft input by interfacing with a differential drive gear, positioning a motor at each of the wheel ends of the axle to provide torque directly to the wheels, etc. Each wheel can be driven by a separate motor, allowing for independent control of the torque applied to each wheel. Lift axles described herein can be suitable for use with various motors capable of applying torque to the axle and/or wheels, such as electric motors, hydraulic motors, internal combustion engines, etc.
