Sleeve joint for plastic-sheathed insulated pipes, comprising an oversized joint sleeve (1) of plastic material overlapping the ends of the sheaths (3) of the connected pipes providing a gap (5) between the sleeve and said ends. Spacer means (7) are located inthe gap at either end. A circumferential groove (13) is provided in the respective sheath (3) outside of the gap (5). A fillet weld (29) of a plastic material fills up the groove (13) and the gap opening and covers the sleeve end face (21). A method of providing the sleeve joint comprises the steps of extruding molten weld material circumferentially on the heated weld area, the extrusion being within a weld shoe. Preferably the groove (13) is cut immediately prior to the extrusion so as to avoid oxidation. The heating of the weld area preferably is made in two steps while using hot air.
