The invention relates to a method for determination of a steering angle in a steering system, provided with a superimposed gear, operated by an actuator, by means of which a total steering angle on a steering gear output side part of the steering column at the gear output side, composed of a steering gear input side adjusted steering wheel angle and an additional steering angle as controlled by the actuator may be adjusted, whereby with the steering system switched off the actuator motor is locked and the steering wheel angle is determined by a steering wheel angle transducer arranged on the input side of the steering gear. According to the invention, the method is characterised in that the total steering angle (δT) is determined by an incrementally-measuring steering angle transducer (132), arranged on the gear output side on the steering column, starting from an initial value, whereby the initial value on switching on the system is determined from a value for the steering wheel angle (δH,O) recorded and stored essentially simultaneously with a previous switching off of the steering system and the total steering angle (δT,0) and the steering wheel angle (δH) determined essentially simultaneously with a switching on of the steering system by means of the steering wheel angle transducer (130).
