The driver assistance system comprises here at least one operator control element which has to be activated by the driver when certain driving situations occur, which ensures the vigilance and attentiveness of the driver during travel which is executed in a partially automated fashion. The currently executed partially automated driving manoeuvre or the partially automated travel is adapted or ended in its execution as a function of the activation of the operator control element, wherein a partially automated driving manoeuvre which is executed during or after the activation of the operator control element is continued as a function of the activation of the operator control element.
