The present invention relates to a method for operating a power grid, in particular a power grid of a watercraft, wherein the power grid is connected to a battery device for intermediate storage of energy, wherein the battery device comprises a plurality of sub-batteries and wherein a first sub-battery is operated in a charging mode in which the sub-battery is rechargeable to receive excess energy from the power grid, while a second sub-battery operates in a discharge mode in which the sub-battery can be discharged to output additional energy into the power grid. The invention further relates to an energy supply system, in particular for a watercraft, with a power grid which is connected to a battery device for intermediate storage of energy, wherein the battery device comprises a plurality of sub-batteries and is designed such that a first sub-battery can be operated in a charging mode, in which the sub-battery is rechargeable to receive excess energy from the power grid, while a second sub-battery can be operated in a discharge mode, in which the sub-battery can be discharged to output additional energy into the power grid.
