Abstract:
A capacitor assembly (1) comprises a number of serially connected capacitor element groups (2), each of which comprises a plurality of capacitor elements (12, 14) connected in parallel. The capacitor assembly is to allow an operation which is as long as possible even in the event of individual capacitor elements failing while minimizing the risk of an explosion of the capacitor assembly. For this purpose, the capacitor elements (12, 14) of at least one of the capacitor element groups (2) comprise a first sub-quantity and a second sub-quantity of capacitor elements (12, 14).The capacitor elements (14) of the first sub-quantity have a fuse (18), and the capacitor elements (12) of the second sub-quantity do not have a fuse (18). The basis of the invention is that an operation which is as long as possible can be achieved even in the event of individual malfunctioning capacitor elements of a capacitor element group in that, wherever possible, capacitor elements with fuses are used which separate the corresponding capacitor element in the event of a failure and do not generate a substantial change in the capacitance of the entire capacitor assembly. However, in order to prevent an avalanche effect in which the entire capacitor element group is separated, a sub-quantity of the capacitor elements, i.e. in particular at least one of the capacitor elements in the capacitor element group, is also to be designed without a fuse such that a capacitor element is always provided which generates a bridge of the respective capacitor element group in the event of a failure. In this manner, a bridge of the capacitor element group is always achieved during an avalanche effect in which all of the fuses are opened.
