Provided are a nonaqueous electrolyte excellent in the prevention of overcharge and capable of retaining a small internal resistance and a high electrical capacity even after charge/discharge cycles and a nonaqueous secondary battery using the same. Specifically, the nonaqueous electrolyte is a lithium salt solution in an organic solvent and contains at least one compound having general formula (1), and the nonaqueous secondary battery includes a negative electrode capable of intercalating and deintercalating lithium, a positive electrode containing a transition metal and lithium, and the nonaqueous electrolyte.
