A method for transferring a teleoperable vehicle from an initial operating mode to a target operating mode. In the method, upon request, a handover of the driving responsibility to an intended operator is planned and prepared. Areas of the driving responsibility and operating limits of the vehicle in the target operating mode are negotiated. The negotiated operating limits are set. The handover is initiated and brought to a successful conclusion in the target operating mode.
