The method includes at least one face detection step including determining at least one first image by using at least one camera, determining at least one material property from a second image, where the second image is recorded while projecting at least one illumination pattern including a plurality of illumination features on the scene, and at least one authentication step including authenticating the detected face by using the face detection and the material property.
