The invention is directed to a valve actuating device (20) comprising a body (22) with a bore (22 1 ) and a bottom (22 2 ), an actuating element (24) sealingly housed in the bore (22 1 ) of the body (22) and forming a first chamber (25) with the body (22), a piston (26) sealingly extending through a bore (24 1 ) in the actuating element (24), said piston (26) and bore (24 1 ) delimiting a second actuating chamber (27), a passage for an auxiliary fluid between the first and second chambers (25, 27) so that a movement of the piston (26) in the bore (24 1 ) of the actuating member (24) can increase the pressure in the first chamber (25) and move the actuating element (24). The fluid passage comprises a restriction (28) and a check-valve (30), both arranged in parallel, so as to limit the flow of the auxiliary fluid from the second chamber (27) to the first chamber (25).
