摘要:
A facestock releasably adhered to a liner sheet is die cut to form at least one compact disc label (820), and two diametrically opposed tabs (840, 844) for each compact disc label (820) and located so that one edge of the tab (840, 844) is in contact with one of the compact disc labels (820) and is separated therefrom by a weakened separation line (830, 834). The liner side of the tab (840, 844) also has a die cut patterned so that it generally follows the outline of the tab (840, 844) but which forms a patch which is generally inside of and generally slightly smaller than the face cut tab (840, 844) pattern. After the label sheet (800) has passed through a printer or copier and the desired indicia has been printed on the labels (820), at least one of the tabs (840, 844) is pushed through from the reverse side of the sheet (800) or pulled through via a sheet (800) opening.

A label sheet (1) having a release liner (16) and a column of labels (12) releasably adhered thereto is modified to allow easy removal of the labels. The liner has a weakened separation line (30) formed by cuts and ties running underneath a column of labels near the edge of the labels, and notches (18) at the top and bottom of the sheet aligned with the cuts and ties. A matrix (14) surrounding the labels, if present, also has cuts and ties, with the cuts and ties in the matrix parallel to and slightly offset from the cuts and ties in the liner. The separation lines are strong enough that the label sheet can be fed through a printer, yet weak enough that a user can tear off the liner and matrix along the separation lines, thus leaving a minor edge of a column of labels exposed for easy removal from the label sheet.

The liner side of the tab (840 or 844) also has a die cut patterned so that it generally follows the outline of the tab (840 or 844), but which forms a shape which is inside of and slightly smaller than the face cut tab pattern. After the label sheet has passed through a printer or copier and the desired indicia has been printed on the labels (820), at least one of the tabs (840 or 844) is pushed through from the reverse side of the sheet (800), or pulled through via a sheet opening partially separating the tab (840 or 844) from the rest of the sheet (800).

Facestock (308) is adhered with adhesive (312) to a liner sheet (304). Weakened separation lines (328) in the facestock define lines of facestock labels (332). And weakened separation lines (340) in the liner sheet define liner sheet strips (354) separable from the body of the line sheet to expose backsides of respective lines of labels. The rest of the liner sheet can then be manipulated to position the line of labels on staggered tabs, the labels pressed into position and separated from the rest of the facestock. Another embodiment includes facestock sheet separation lines (120) defining the perimeters of facestock labels (140) with at least one facestock handle (148) attached thereto. The liner sheet (112) includes a portion (160) attached to the handle whereby the handle, the label and the portion are removable as a unit from the liner sheet and the facestock, the handle manipulated to position the label so that its adhesive backside is positioned and applied at the desired surface location, and the handle and portion then separated from the label.

A label applicator (100) including a support surface having a central area (116) and curving downwardly from the central area (116). A post assembly (120) extends up from the central area (116) such that a label (130) having a label through-hole (144) can be positioned in a support position generally on the support surface with the post assembly (120) extending up through the label through-hole (144) and an adhesive face of the label (130) facing up. Thereby an article having an article through-hole can be positioned over the post assembly (120) so that a flat surface of the article can be pressed and guided against the adhesive face of the positioned label. The curved surface flattens out as the article is pressed down, allowing the label (130) to be smoothly applied to the article. Pins (170, 172) extending up adjacent to the support surface engage in notches (180, 184) on the label (130) and help hold the label (130) in place.

A label sheet construction (100) including a liner sheet and a facestock sheet (108) releasably adhered to the liner sheet. A plurality of labels (144) and fold lines (148, 180) are die cut in the facestock sheet (108) but not the liner sheet. The fold lines (148, 180) extend between the labels (144). After the sheet construction (100) has been passed through a printer or copier and the desired indicia printed on the labels, the construction (100) (an upper portion thereof) is bent back along one of the fold lines (148, 180). This separates a(n) (upper) portion of the label (144) from the underlying liner sheet. The user then easily grasps the upper portion and peels the label (144) off the liner sheet without tearing the label (144). When the label (144) has a burst design, it is preferable to have a pair of fold lines (148, 180) for folding the liner sheet away from a portion of the label (144). The burst design preferably has alternating long and short points.
摘要:
One or more cuts (40) is provided in a label liner sheet (12) near the area of a cutout within the label, such as the center hole (30) in a CD label (20), in order to facilitate reliable separation of the cutout from the label and retention of the cutout (30) on the liner sheet (12) as the label (20) is peeled from the liner. The majority of the cut runs generally parallel to the cutout boundary (32) underneath the cutout (30), and the ends (45, 49) of the cut cross the boundary (32) at two separate boundary crossing points (43, 47) on either side of the portion of the cut running parallel to the boundary (32). The cut first causes a flap (58) to be created in the liner sheet (12) and partially lifted as the label (20) is beginning to be peeled away. Thereafter, as the peel line passes the flap area, the cutout (30) experiences the full retentive strength of the label's pressure sensitive adhesive primarily at the two boundary crossings (43, 47), and the cutout (30) is pulled from the label (20) and retained on the liner sheet (12) as the adhesive force overcomes the cohesive force.
