摘要： This invention is directed to a method and apparatus for heat-treating multifilament yarn, wherein the yarn is fed into a chamber having imperforate and perforate sections, and to the resultant yarn products. Hot fluid is forced through a wad of the yarn in the imperforate section of the chamber and vented through the perforate section. The device may be used to bulk and heat-set yarns, depending upon the operating conditions. Yarn products prepared from this process are especially suitable for making carpets having good texture retention and carpet bulk.

The pile surface structure comprises a moisture stable backing substrate, a plurality of elongated pile articles each comprising an elongated, moisture stable support strand having bonded thereto a plurality of 'U' shaped bundles of multifilament yarn. The pile articles are bonded to the backing substrate. Different backing substrates and support strands may be used.

摘要： Bulking unbulked nylon carpet (55) having a pile side and a backing side is accomplished by heating the carpet to between 90 and 150 °C, then cooling the carpet to a temperature below 60 °C. Heating is accomplished by directing heated fluid at the pile side, or both the pile side and the backing side. The heating oven comprises an enclosure (42); tenter clip loop (44) and opposed loop (46) driven by motors (48 and 50), respectively; a plurality of nozzles (52, 54); return inlet (56), blower (58) and a header (59) for circulating gaseous fluids through the nozzles; dampers (60, 62 and 64) and a heat exchanger (65) for heating or cooling the circulating fluid.
