The invention relates to an optical converter system for LEDs, preferably for so-called (W)LEDs, and to a method for producing said optical converter system. The modular optical converter system comprises an inorganic converter (1) for converting the radiation emitted by the LED, an inorganic optical component (2), preferably comprising glass, which is mounted downstream of the converter in the direction of emission of the LED, the converter and the first optical component resting against each other and being connected in at least sections thereof. The optical converter system has a temperature resistance which lies above that of systems known from the prior art. The preferred components of the system are substantially UV-resistant and chemically resistant.

A coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) of the core layer is greater than a CTE of the cladding layer. The core layer has a tensile stress, and the cladding layer has a compressive stress. A retained strength of the glass article is a strength determined after abrasion of an outer surface of the glass article with 1 mL of 90 grit SiC particles for 5 seconds at an abrasion pressure, and a ratio of the retained strength at an abrasion pressure of 25 psi to the retained strength at an abrasion pressure of 5 psi is at least about 0.3.

The invention relates to a method for shaping an optical component (2) such that said component has an aspherical optical surface. According to the invention: the optical component (100) is heated and mechanical stresses are applied thereto; the heating and the application of the mechanical stresses (200) are stopped; an optical surface (4) of the component is polished to a planar or spherical shape (400); and the delayed resilient deformation of the optical component (500) is relaxed. The present invention is particularly useful in the production of aspherical mirrors having a large size.
