Firstly, a three-dimensional molded body (216) of upper and intermediate layers having a recessed section (244) on a lower surface thereof is molded by means of an indented mold (232) and a protruding mold (216), and subsequently a lower layer material (213) is molten by high frequency dielectric heating and made to flow into the recessed section. Firstly, a three-dimensional molded body (316, 416) of upper and intermediate layers is molded, and subsequently the three-dimensional molded body is welded to a base member (414) by means of high frequency dielectric heating.

The apparatus and method of this invention provide a system for forming three dimensional bodies or patterns on porous materials (340) wherein a portion of the body is firmly bonded into the material. This in effect, makes the three dimensional elastomeric body substantially an integral part of the porous material (340). The process of utilizing a heated base plate or platen (330), heated mold (420) and maintaining such elements under pressure over a predetermined time period allows the polymeric material to cure and firmly bond within the porous material (340) and to form the three dimensional body. The temperature of the platen (330) is usually kept above the temperature of the mold (420). A nozzle (620) adjacent the mold (420) is maintained at a temperature substantially below the temperature of the mold (420) to prevent curing of the polymeric material in the nozzle (620). The cooling (535) and vacuum mechanisms allow continuous coupling of the nozzle (620) to the mold (420).

A reverse molded fiberboard panel (12); a wainscot kit comprising a plurality of differently sized reverse molded panels (12), and a planar finishing or spacer panel, adapted to completely cover any size wall between a wall base board and a wall chair rail; and a method of reverse molding a loose cellulosic mat, in a single pressing step, to provide one or more relatively high density, raised panels (12) without requiring preliminary pressing, or other pre-shaping step, such as scalping. The reverse-molded panels (12) are molded in a conventional, multi-opening fiberboard press, in a single pressing step process, while achieving excellent transfer of mold detail (embossing fidelity) without visually noticeable fiber fracture.

A substrate (52) having a face is placed in contacting relationship with the second thermosetting resin film (82) and a progressively moving compressive force is applied (90a, 90b) to the second thermosetting resin via the substrate (52) to prevent air from becoming entrained (80a) within the second thermosetting resin (82). The first and second thermosetting resins (70, 82) cure without the second thermosetting resin (82) imparting shear stress on the first thermosetting resin (70).

The process for realising matrices which can be used for decorating ceramic tiles comprises the following stages: manufacture of a template (1) reproducing, in three-dimensional form and in relief with respect to a reference surface (2) of the template (1), a decoration to be applied on ceramic tiles; creation of a matrix (3) made of an elastomer, obtained by impression of the elastomer on the template (1), thus creating on the elastomer a recessed impression of the decoration on the template (1). The recessed impression is obtained by a dropping of the elastomer in a liquid state onto the template and a subsequent solidification of the elastomer on the template (1) to form a layer. The recessed impression is destined to be filled with a product to be transferred onto the tiles, which will constitute the decoration thereon.

A decorative article (10) is made by a process in which a controlled-flatness substrate (20) having an effective edge (16) in a closed pattern on its surface receives a fluent plastic composition which is cast into an area (18) defined by the edge (16). The fluent plastic flows to the effective edge (16) and is then cured to form a clear plastic cap (14). During casting and curing the substrate (12) is held flat and horizontal by reason of its being releasably adhered to a flat, smooth-surfaced, stiff release liner. The resulting decorative article is free of optical distortions and may be used as a covering, preferably for an elongated automotive component such as an external vertical pillar (24) between the passenger compartments of an automobile.
