    摘要: A sensitized explosive that comprises an explosive precipitated onto a sensitizer. The explosive is CL-20, PETN, RDX, HMX, or mixtures thereof and the sensitizer is aluminum, titanium, zirconium, magnesium, melamine, styrene, lithium aluminum hydride, or mixtures thereof. The sensitized explosive is used in a percussion primer that includes a bismuth compound and a melt binder. The bismuth compound is bismuth oxide, bismuth subnitrate, bismuth tetroxide, bismuth sulfide, or mixtures thereof and the melt binder is a wax having a melting point above ambient temperature, trinitrotoluene, poly(3,3-bis(azidomethyl)oxetane), poly(3-azidomethyl-3 -methyloxetane), ethyl-3,5-dinitrobenzoate, or mixtures thereof. A gun cartridge and other primer-containing ordnance assemblies employing the percussion primer are also disclosed. Methods of forming the sensitized explosive and the percussion primer are also disclosed.

    摘要: A vehicle occupant safety restraint gas generator is provided in which the ignition system for the propellant comprises a pyrotechnic layer (22), e.g. a reactive film, preferably comprising a substrate of oxidizing polymeric film such as polytetrafluoro-ethylene (PTFE) having at least a portion of its surface covered with a layer of oxidizable material, for example magnesium, which may be vapour-deposited on the surface. The propellant is preferably a propellant train (12, 14, 16, 18) which comprises a plurality of adjacent propellant grains such as toroidal discs which surround the pyrotechnic layer or are completeley encased thereby. The gas generator is simpler and more economical to manufacture, and has improved safety during use.

    摘要: A high-precision pyrotechnic initiator (100) is well adapted for rapid, precise ignition of solid and liquid energetics. A rigid housing (18), for example formed of stainless steel or an SiC-treated semiconductor substrate material, contains a pyrotechnic. When ignited, the reaction, or explosion, of the pyrotechnic is confined to the housing (18). The release of energy creates a hot particulate in which the formation of solid byproducts is mitigated or eliminated. The flame is directed through an outlet (66). In one embodiment, a microcapillary tube (46) may be placed in communication with the outlet (66), the tube (46) including a primary front vent (50) and secondary side vents (48), which serve to increase system efficiency and reliability. A dual bridge wire (52) may be provided for improving system reliability. The resulting assembly thereby performs the combined functions of both an igniter and a flash tube and a complete ignition train is provided in a manner that overcomes the limitations of the conventional configurations.
