The present invention provides a vehicle lighting device that can set a wide output current without replacing a component such as a coil. An output current setting device 7 sets an output current setting signal 8 in such a manner that an output current 5 in accordance with a luminous flux of an LED 2 is outputted. The output current setting signal 8 is supplied to a frequency adjusting component 3a and an output current detecting component 3b. The frequency adjusting component 3a generates a triangle wave of a frequency based upon the output current setting signal 8, and supplies the triangle wave to an output adjusting-signal generating component 3c. The output adjusting-signal generating component 3c compares the triangle wave with a signal voltage that is outputted from the output current detecting component 3b to generate an output adjusting signal 6, which is supplied to a switching element 30.

A flexible energy management system is disclosed, which can be applied to trains having a wide variety of formations. The invention uses a special recycling vehicle incorporating regenerative braking and energy storage such as a battery, together with a power conversion system to supply electricity in the standard form for train services such as lighting and air conditioning. A control system arranges the supply of electricity for train services to coaches from either the recycling vehicle or the locomotive depending on the level of charge in the battery. This improves the overall energy efficiency of the train without requiring special electrical bus connections between vehicles. Further embodiments of the system include facilities for boost traction and shunting, with arrangements for the automatic control of power distribution when train formations are changed, as illustrated in Figure 5.
