摘要: A method (100) of applying a ceramic coating onto a metallic article (42, 62, 62A). The method comprising the sequential steps of: a) producing a compressive residual stress in the surface of the metallic article by water jet peening the metallic article; b) applying a bond coating to the surface of the metallic article by the sequential steps of: i) applying a layer of platinum-group metal onto the metal article, ii) heat treating the metallic article to diffuse the platinum-group metal into the metallic article to produce a platinum-group metal enriched outer layer on the metallic article, and iii) heating the metallic article in an oxygen containing atmosphere to form a layer of alpha alumina on the surface of the platinum-group metal enriched outer layer of the metallic article; and c) depositing the ceramic coating onto the layer of alpha alumina on the metallic article. The metal article may be a turbine blade (42), a turbine vane segment (62) or a turbine vane (62A) of a gas turbine engine (10).
