The method also comprises generating a second pair of modulation symbols for each of the pairs of data symbols, the second pair of modulation symbols forming third and fourth modulation symbols of the Alamouti cell formed for the pair of data symbols in the first version of the OFDM symbol, forming a second version of the OFDM symbol by modulating the subcarriers allocated for carrying the data with the third and fourth modulation symbols of the Alamouti cell, modulating the one or more pilot carriers of the second version of the OFDM symbols according to the predetermined pattern, and transmitting the first version of the OFDM symbol via a first antenna, and the second version of the OFDM symbol via a second antenna. For at least one of the pairs of data symbols, the subcarriers, on which each of the first and second modulation symbols and the third and fourth modulation symbols forming the Alamouti cells, are separated within the first and second versions of the OFDM symbol by at least one other data bearing subcarrier or one or more of the pilot carriers. A transmitter and/or receiver according to the invention find application with the Digitial Video Broadcast- Terestrial 2 (DVB-T2) standard.

Für die Übertragung von digitalen Rundfunksignalen werden ETI-Signale benötigt, die mit einem korrekten DAB Mode ausgebildet sein müssen. Bisher können ETI-Signale nur zwischen den DAB Modi 1,2 und 4 umgewandelt werden, da diese Modi jeweils drei Informationsblöcke (FIB) pro Zeiteinheit aufweisen. Bei dem DAB Mode 3 werden jedoch vier Informationsblöcke (FIB) je Zeiteinheit verwendet. Um auch die Umwandlung eines ETI-Signals in einen DAB Mode 3 zu ermöglichen, wird erfindungsgemäß vorgeschlagen, die drei Informationsblöcke (FIB1, FIB2, FIB3) des ETI-Signals mit einem vierten Informationsblock (30) zu ergänzen. Der vierte Informationsblock (30) ist als Dummy-FIB ausgebildet, so dass die Bedingungen des DAB Mode 3 Formats erfüllt sind. Alternativ können für den vierten Informationsblock (30) auch ein oder mehrere nutzbare Informationsgruppen (FIG) eines Informationsblocks (FIB) kopiert und verwendet werden.

The PAPR algorithm takes into account a rotating constellation phase offset for the shifted signals corresponding to the amount of applied frequency shift. In the case of a dual sideband In-Band-On-Channel (IBOC) signal typically used in conjunction with an FM carrier in the center, the sidebands can be interleaved to create a new IBOC signal definition and take the place of the FM carrier for an all-digital transmission that is backward compatible with IBOC receivers allowing for a gradual migration to all digital broadcasting.
