摘要:
A method of manufacturing an extended content booklet label. A multi-up book includes folds that are parallel to the book's spine. The multi-up book is disposed on the label web and held in place by an overlaminate. The overlaminate, book log and labels are all pre-trimmed in the longitudinal direction. The web is moved passed cutting elements to progressively slit the web and trim the major web into minor webs in which the overlaminate, booklets and labels are trimmed in the width direction to have a common edge.

A booklet making machine is provided, comprising a stapling arrangement adapted for stapling a stack of sheets following a paper path. A contacting device is adapted to contact the stack of sheets and a drive means is adapted to impart a reciprocating movement of the contacting device. By means of a sensor adapted to determine the distance of the movement of the contacting device, the thickness of the stack of sheets can be determined.

A method for forming a printed product is provided. The method includes the steps of providing a first section (116A) and a second section (116B) of the printed product with an identical array of stitching locations (94), each stitching location receiving a stitch or being punched through. A hole (86) is punched in the first section at a first stitching location. A hole is punched in the second section at a second stitching location. The stitching location arrays of the first and second sections are aligned with each other. Stitching material of a first stitch (92) is passed through the hole in the second section at the second stitching location and the first section is stitched with the first stitch at the second stitching location. A printing press is also provided.

A booklet 32 is produced from a pre-printed sheet 10 by folding the sheet with at least one but preferably two crease-lines 11 extending in the line of advancement of the sheet. The crease-lines 11 are squeezed by a roller nip 14 and then the sheet is fed to and gripped by a rotatable mandrel 15. The mandrel is rotated to wind the sheet around the outer surface thereof and then the wound sheet 21 is removed from the mandrel and is squeezed through a further roller nip 23 so as to form a substantially flat booklet pre-form 24. The leaves of the pre-form are bound together along at least one compressed folded edge 28 of the pre-form thereby forming a booklet spine and the other three edges are slit open, 25,26,27. Alternatively two spines are formed respectively along the two compressed edges of the pre-form and two or more booklets are formed by cutting through the pre-form part-way between the spines and also slitting open the other two edges 30 of the pre-form.

The invention relates to a notepad and to a process for manufacturing a notepad comprising providing a paper supply; sequentially feeding single pages from said paper supply to a printing and cutting station; printing on images on pad region of each single page; making at least one irregular cut at the edge of the pad region whilst leaving at least one straight edge of the pad region uncut; collating the printed and cut pages in a stack of desired quantity; cutting the collated stack along the at least one uncut straight edge of each pad region; and gluing the collated stack along the resulting cut straight edge.

A bookbinding system and method of binding books including a cover/spine assembly (10) having a relatively rigid cover section (14) with a length and width at least as great as that of the stack of sheets (22) to be bound and a spine section (12) having a width greater than the height of the stack (22). The cover/spine assembly (10) and the spine section (12) are secured together along the length of the cover section (14) so that the spine section (12) can be folded along a first edge (20) with respect to the cover/spine assembly (10). A heat activated matrix (18) is disposed on the spine section (12) including a central adhesive band (18B) and a second edge (12A) of the spine section (12). Binding is carried out by placing the stack (22) over the cover section (14) and folding the spine section (12) over the edge of the stack (22).
