摘要: A medical grasping device (10) for vascular use, having an outer sheath (12), an elongate control member (50) extending an outer sheath (12) to a distal tip section (54), and a proximal control assembly (22) including an actuation section (24) joined to the elongate control member (50). Adjacent to the distal tip section (54) is a grasping portion (70, 70') that is extendable from the outer sheath (12) to create loops (74,74') for grasping a target object (T) for repositioning within the vascular system, or for removal from the patient, with loops being retractable into the outeer sheath to hold the target object against the device (10) during movement of the device. Elongate control member (50) is preferably a cannula or tube having a lumen (58) extending completely therethrough for placement over a guide wire (28) already in the patient.

摘要: An implantable medical device (10) such as a catheter with a pharmacologically active ingredient layered between outer and inner elongated member tubes (11 and 13) for minimizing the risk of infection or other physiological afflictions associated with the implantation thereof. The outer and inner elongated member tubes include a base material mixed with a bioactive material including, for example, one and/or the other of rifampin and minocycline. An itermediate tube or layer (18) is positioned between and in communication with the outer and inner elongated member tubes (11 and 13). The intermediate tube or layer also includes a base material of, for example, silicone with a pharmacologically active ingredient mixed therein. The slower diffusion rate minocycline is included as or part of the bioactive material in the base material of the outer and inner elongated member tubes. The pharmacologically active ingredient or bioactive material such as a mixture of rifampin and minocycline is included in the base material of the intermediate tube or layer, which permeates through the inner and outer member tubes and diffuses therefrom or therethrough for treating tissues surrounding the catheter concomitantly.

The reinforcement layer (46) generally extends from the proximal end (14) of the guiding catheter (10) and terminates proximal to the distal end (18) of the guiding catheter. The distal portion of the guiding catheter (10) comprises a soft material to facilitate manipulation. The reinforcement layer (24) can be attached to the inner layer (46) and the outer layer (16) attaches to both the reinforcement layer (24) and the inner layer (46). Proximal portion of the guiding catheter can have a folded cuff (52).

摘要: An expandable stent prosthesis is disclosed in which the apices of the bends located at at least one end of the stent are individually twisted at an angle to the circumference of the stent to form a fan blade-like arrangement when viewed from that end. The fan blade-like arrangement allows the stent to expand from the compressed condition during deployment such that likelihood of a strut or bend of the stent become entangled with a barb or adjacent strut or bend, is reduced. In one embodiment of the invention, the fan blade-like arrangement results from plastically deforming the individual apices, while in another embodiment, the apices are twisted into the fan blade-like arrangement during the loading process, such as by use of a suture thread to pull the apices into alignment.

摘要: A catheter apparatus (20) and radiation dosimetry unit indicator (21) for delivery of a prescribed radiation dose to a patient. The catheter is filled with a radiation carrier material such as an inert radioactive gas (12) for the treatment of, for example, restenosis after angioplasty, and malignancies. The inflated catheter includes a plurality of discrete chambers such as balloon sections (22, 24, 26) for transporting the radioactive carrier material, and a plurality of discrete chambers (32, 34, 36) enabling substantial blood flow through the artery during treatment with the prescribed radiation. The inflated catheter can also comprise a one unit balloon. A specific metal coating enhances the radiation dose delivered to the target. The wall (25) of the inflation lumen attenuates transmission dose to the blood circulating through the hollow inner lumen of the catheter device. The system also creates increased by-product radiation, from the impact of beta particles and gamma protons travelling toward the lumen wall. A radiation dosimetry unit indicator (21) is positioned, disposed, or affixed to a calibrated catheter to assist the physician in prescribing radiation activity and exposure times.
