    摘要: There is provided an interlock arrangement for two pieces of paperboard. The arrangement comprises at least one flap (19) projecting from one piece, the leading portion (20) of which flap (19) is folded back about a waist section fold line (23). The leading portion (20) has laterally projecting portions (21) and is inserted through an opening (27) cut into the other piece of paperboard. The lateral projections (21) pass through the opening then tend to spring up so as to prevent withdrawal. The tip of the leading portion (20) remains held by the opening cut thereby ensuring that the flap (19) remains double thickness when engaged in the opening (27).

    摘要: A carrier (12) especially suited for carrying beverage cans (C). The carrier is comprised of a top panel (14) connected to support panels (16) which contain slots (22) for receiving the can chimes (F). In addition, short side panel flaps (24) connected to the support panels and end panel flaps (28) connected to the top panel assist in the holding of cans in place. Webs (34) foldably connected to the side panel flaps and to extensions of the end panel flaps cause the end panel flaps to be automatically drawn into place. The side panel flaps, the webs and the end panel extensions are glued together to hold the carrier in locked condition.

    摘要: A self-locating star wheel system (10) for spacing bottles on a conveyor (71) in a packaging machine comprising a pair of star wheels (12, 14) with a hub (16) and cam (13) disposed between them and mounted on an arm (80) which moves them into the stream of bottles until the cam (13) engages a pair of rollers (32, 34) mounted at the ends of a U-shaped pivoting bracket (36) attached to the machine frame to control the lateral position of the star wheels (12, 14) with respect to the stream of bottles. The cam diameter is specific for a given size star wheel (12, 14) so that the proper positioning of the star wheel (12, 14) is achieved by the geometric relationship between the star wheel (12, 14) and the cam (13). The mechanism also functions as a safety feature by sending a stop signal to the machine when something, such as a down bottle (62), causes the star wheel (12, 14) to move away from the rollers (12, 14).

    摘要: A carrier containing a plurality of layers of articles, such as beverage cans, arranged in stacked end-to-end fashion. The carrier(10) is fully enclosed and is formed with overlapping top panel flaps (16, 18) which produce an area of double thickness between handle openings in the flaps. A reinforcing sheet (40) on the underside of the top panel in the double layer area protects against tearing, while stress relief lines (34, 36) in the form of score lines extending from the ends of the handle opening to the corners of the carrier (10) provide for distribution of lifting and carrying stresses. A separator sheet (70) preventing direct contact between stacked articles extends between layers and may include distortable areas (72) aligned with the articles. Downward pressure on the upper layer (C1) causes the bottom of an article to force the distortable area into a recess in the top of the next lower article.
