The present invention discloses a camera holder device and mechanism for laparoscopic surgery. The camera holder device is easily installed and disassembled, comfortable to use, not limiting the dexterity of the surgeon, having small physical dimension and inexpensive. Furthermore, the present invention relates to means and methods for improving the interface between the surgeon and the operating medical assistant or between the surgeon and an endoscope system for laparoscopic surgery.. Moreover, this present invention discloses a device useful for controlling an endoscope system for laparoscopic surgery, in which the endoscope is inserted through a small incision into the body's cavities.

Disclosed herein is a stereoscopic laparoscope apparatus comprising a laparoscope, a computer adapted to convert and store image information of the patient's affected part from the laparoscope, and a monitor used to output the image information. The laparoscope comprises a supporting unit including a manipulator, and a pair of parallel left and right supporting rods, a flexible tube unit including a pair of left and right flexible tubes, which are adapted to be spaced apart from each other within a predetermined angular range, and a binocular camera assembly including a pair of left and right cameras installed at the tip end of the flexible tube unit so that they take images of the affected part in the abdominal cavity under operation of the manipulator. With such a configuration, the image information of the patient's affected part can be processed into stereoscopic photographs, resulting in precise diagnosis and laparoscopic surgery.

In an alternative embodiment, the cleaning device includes a cannula and a seal. The seal is disposed within the cannula and configured to clean at least a portion of a percutaneous visualization device upon insertion and retraction in the cannula. Further, the cannula has a cleaning surface on at least a portion of an inner surface thereof. The cleaning surface is also configured to clean at least a portion of said percutaneous visualization device upon insertion and retraction in the cannula.

The devices may utilize an elongate balloon (16) of any suitable length which may be formed of an elastic or non-elastic material. The balloon (16) may be of double walled construction (18, 19), and may be provided with a central lumen (17) which may receive a guide rod, scope or other surgical instrument. The device may have a support tube (22) secured to the inner wall of the balloon (16) to provide columnar support. The support tube (22) may have a transparent shroud (91) attached to its distal end. There is an open space between the distal end of the support tube, and the end of the shroud (91) allowing access to adjacent tissue. The shroud may perform blunt dissection, and/or retraction to clear an open space for viewing or for performing surgical procedures. The support tube (22) receives a scope or other surgical instrument. By using the guide rod or scope as a pushing member (20) the apparatus may be advanced alongside the vessel targeted for dissection from attached tissue. A balloon cover (27) which may be elastic or resilient surrounds the balloon (16), and facilitates compression of the balloon (16) after it is deflated.
