    摘要: A nipping device is provided in a transfer unit (21) having a fixed support (33) and rotating element (30,31,32,39) rotatably supported by the fixed support (33). The nipping device retains a printing sheet against the circumferential surface of the rotating element (30,31,32,39), and separates the printing sheet from the transfer unit (21). The nipping device includes a nipper (40), a pivoting lever device and a drive device (48,53). The levers (41,42) of the pivoting lever device are disposed within the rotating element (30,31,32,39), pivotal on an axes (43) intersecting the circumferential surface of the transfer unit (21), and functions therein to open and close the nipper (40) by which the printing sheet is nipped against and separated from the transfer unit (21). The drive device (48,53) is disposed in the fixed support (33), and functions to turn the pivoting levers (41,42). Due to the structure of this device, it is possible to impel the pivoting levers (41,42) in a uniform direction by the use of tension springs (45), and furthermore the setting of the impelling force of the springs (45) to the minimum necessary, is facilitated, such that the load applied to the driving system of the transfer unit can be reduced.

    摘要: A print medium sheet feeding system for an ink jet prin­ter having a print head with a planar array of jets is provided by clamping the leading edge of a paper sheet after it is passed through a printing zone to a rotating assembly of parallel disks. The sheet is pulled through the printing zone by rotating a plurality of disks (14) with a clamp (50) being carried with the rotating drum (14c) formed by said disks (14). A platen (92) is pro­vided which has a flat surface in the printing zone (56) forming a tangent to the outer surface of the rotating disks (14). The sheet is initially clamped against the drum (14c) by the combination of a lever arm (80) which is selectively engageable with the drum for rotation therewith and an attached actuating arm (72) having a plate (52) which secures a sheet to the drum surface. The resulting clamp (50) rotates with the drum (14c) until the sheet passes below idler rollers which are biased against the drum surface. These rollers then hold the sheet against the drum for motion of the sheet with the drum surface. The actuating arm is released from the drum after a sheer passes below the rollers, thereby allowing any sized sheet to be fed through the system.

The drum (24) is further counterbalanced by a fixed weight (104) opposite from the movable bell crank weights. Further, the ends of the clamping bars (46, 48) are moved against the drum periphery to their sheet clamping positions by centrifugal force acting on counterbalancing weights carried by radially movable brackets (38, 40) from which the ends of the respective clamping bars (46, 48) are supported.

The guide membes are disposed in circumferential registry with respective slots defined in the displacing members for passing through the slots, respectively, to engage the sheet end to remove the same from the clamp upon rotation of the platen.
