The invention relates to a device and method for the manufacture of glass comprising the preparation of a main flow of main liquid glass by a main device comprising a main furnace, the preparation of an auxiliary flow of auxiliary liquid glass by an auxiliary device comprising an auxiliary furnace with an immersed burner,whereby the auxiliary flow is lower than the main flow and the auxiliary glass is of a different composition to that of the main glass, whereupon the two flows are subsequently mixed to form a single total flow of final glass. The auxiliary furnace is used to provide coloring to the main glass such that the final glass is colored glass. A flat glass which is extremely homogeneous and colored in the mass thereof can thus be manufactured using a system with low transition times.

The inventive furnace comprises at least two series-arranged baths (1, 2, 3), each bath being provided with at least one burner submerged (4) into molten material. Said invention also relates to a method for producing silica-containing compounds with the aid of the furnace, the silica and the melt thereof being filled in the first bath.
