The invention relates to a method for measuring the switching time of an on-load tap changer and to a measuring circuit suitable therefor. In said method, the on-load tap changer is switched over, specific courses of measurement voltages are determined and the edges thereof detected. By comparing the real measured edges with target values stored in advance in nonvolatile memory, it can be determined if the switching sequence of the tested on-load tap changer corresponds to the target values.

An electromechanical switching device (250), especially a contactor or a multifunctional device comprising a contactor, comprises at least one stationary contact piece (6), at least one movable contact piece (21) movable to and from said at least one stationary contact piece (6) for opening or closing a current path (5a, 5b), and an electromagnetic drive unit (201) comprising a yoke (210) and a coil (11) and a movable armature (215), wherein the electromagnetic drive unit (201) is adapted to displace said movable contact piece (21) in response to a voltage applied to the coil (11). The at least one movable contact piece (21) and said at least one stationary contact piece (6) are adapted to limit movement of the armature (215) after activation of the electromagnetic drive unit (201).

Disclosed is an electromagnetic switching device (1, 2, 3) comprising a number of fixed contact pieces (12), a solenoid-operated mechanism (6), a contact support (4) which can be moved counter to restoring means with the aid of the solenoid-operated mechanism (6) and on which a number of movable contact pieces (9) are arranged, and an off stop (14) for the contact support (4). A sensor (32) is provided for detecting the position of the contact support (4) while a control unit (25) is provided which is connected to the sensor (32) and regulates and/or controls the solenoid-operated mechanism (6) during a switch-off process in order to decelerate the contact support (4) before the same hits the off stop (14). Also disclosed is a method for operating such a switching device (1, 2, 3). The contact support (4) transmits only a small momentum to the off stop (14), thus reducing the load applied to the involved parts. Such a switching device (1, 2, 3) therefore has a longer service life than conventional switching devices.

The invention relates to a separation path (2) of an electric switching device, which is defined by two contact pieces (3, 4) which can be displaced in relation to each other. The relative position of the contact pieces (3, 4) is detected by a first position monitoring device (7) and by a second position monitoring device (8). Also, the insulation resistance of an insulating medium located in the region of the separation path (2) is determined. According to the invention, a release signal (12) is produced in the presence of a specific relative position of the contact pieces (3, 4) and an insulation resistance of the insulating medium which is associated with the relative position, said signal classifying the separation path (2) as in the separation position.

In a switchgear, the switching contacts of a switchgear mechanism (100) are set to the on position or the off position, wherefore pressure is generated by the contact force spring in order to apply the pre-determined contact force in the on position. The service life of one such switchgear is determined by the erosion of switching contacts and by the mechanical wear of the switchgear mechanism. It is known that the switching contact erosion can be determined by detecting the change in pressure in the drive of the switchgear, According to prior art, the change in pressure is always measured during the switching-off process. According to the invention, the pressure change is detected during the switching-on process, and especially the mechanical wear of the switchgear can be simultaneously determined. The inventive device comprises a magnetic drive (100) consisting of an armature (110), a yoke (101) and magnetising coils (102, 102'), a position transmitter (120) being coupled to the magnetic armature (110) in a positively engaging manner.

A method for analyzing an electrical contact pair is provided. At least one of the contacts is coupled to a line-side (801) of the contact pair, and at least one of the contacts is coupled to a load-side (802) of the contact pair. The method includes electrically coupling the load-side contact and the line-side contact to electrical ground, applying a test voltage (834) across the contact pair while the line-side contact and load-side contact remain electrically coupled to electrical ground, triggering a contact pair operation timer at a start of a test, detecting at least one of a first closure of the contact pair and a first opening of the contact pair using the test voltage, and determining the timing of the contact pair based upon the operation of the contact pair operation timer.
