The invention deals with the field of systems for detecting the position in which a road accident occurred along ordinary roads, and in particular along motorways. The system provides for the installation, along guard-rails or barriers made of reinforced concrete (1), of an electric circuit or a circuit for emitting a signal (2) placed in order to be easily interrupted by a motor vehicle impact. The circuit interruption activates a processor (3) that processes electric data to determine the accident position and transfers these data to signalling circuits. The signalling circuits can be of two types: signalling circuits (4) along the road route being surveyed, signalling circuits (5) located in assistance departments such as Traffic Police Stations, Fire Brigade Stations, First Aid Stations, etc.

In a further aspect, the application describes a parapet comprising a plurality of uprights and at least one rail supported by the uprights, the uprights and rail being formed of steel and connected via bolts of stainless steel. It is preferred that the uprights and rails are galvanised. This avoids the requirement to touch up the bolts and any other fastenings with zinc paint in order to provide continuous galvanic protection to the entire structure.
