A motorcycle is provided with a body height adjustor capable of adjusting the body height of the motorcycle by changing lengths of front suspensions (8,9) and a rear cushion unit (14). The body height adjustor includes a first hydraulic jack provided for the front suspensions (8,9), a second hydraulic jack for the rear cushion unit (14) and a body height adjusting unit to transmit hydraulic pressure of hydraulic fluid in the rear cushion unit to the fisrt and second hydraulic jacks through hydraulic hoses (16,17). X: difference between stroke changing quantities on an axis of the front wheel and an axis of the rear wheel; L: distance between axes of the front and rear wheels, so called wheel base; H: height of the head lamp from a ground base. The rear cushion unit (14) is provided with a rear oil damper and a coil spring against which the second hydraulic jack abuts and the initial load of the coil spring is changed by the hydraulic pressure in the rear cushion unit. The second hydraulic jack is movable in a direction towards the coil spring with respect to the rear oil damper to change the initial load of the spring. The first hydraulic jack is provided with a cylinder chanber, a piston incorporated in the cylinder chanber and an spring disposed between an end portion of the cylinder chamber and the piston so as to urge the piston in a direction opposite to a direction of hydraulic pressure.

A motorcycle having a body height adjustor (18) in which a body height adjusting unit (15) transmits the hydraulic pressure of a pressure fluid in the rear cushion unit (14) simultaneously to hydraulic jacks of the rear cushion unit and the front suspension units (8,9) to change the lengths of front suspensions and a rear cushion unit and to thereby adjust the body height. The body height adjusting unit is disposed on the side of the body frame remote from the exhaust pipe. A hose connector (19) for connecting the body height adjusting unit (15) and the hydraulic jacks of the front suspensions is disposed at the rear of the front suspension and in front of the body height adjusting unit. The hydraulic hoses (30,16,17) are laid along a line corresponding to the center of the front fork in the widthwise direction. A blow valve (463) incorporated in the body height adjusting unit is opened by the operation of turning OFF the ignition switch (475) to forcibly set the motorcycle body to a lower position. The position of a body height changeover valve incorporated in the body height adjusting unit is detected to indicate the present body height by a body height position indicator, or a see-through window (631) is formed in the casing of the hydrualic jack of the rear cushion unit to enable the rider to confirm the body height.

A valve actuating mechanism disposed in a four-stroke cycle engine in which exhaust and suction valves are disposed, comprises a rocker shaft (11) rotatably supported to a cylinder head (21) of an engine unit and having eccentric large-diameter portions (12,13) formed as bushings on the way of the rocker shaft, rocker arms including a first rocker arm (7) rotatably mounted directly on the rocker shaft and second and third rocker arms (8,9) rotatably mounted on the bushings with the first rocker arm being interposed therebetween, and a cam assembly including first, second and third cam members (3,4,5) which drives the first, second and third rocker arms, respectively. The second and third cams have the same cam profiles and the first cam has a cam profile different from those of the second and third cams. The present invention relates to a scooter-type vehicle comprising a rear body (7) a housing box (8) disposed in the rear body (7), and a unit swing type engine (4) provided under the rear body (7), wherein a reference line (X₁-X₁) is established on the upper side profile of the unit swing type engine (4) so that the upper end of the upper side of the unit swing type engine (4) is placed under the reference line (X₁-X₁). It is therefore sufficient to consider the relation between the reference line and the bottom of the housing box (8) during oscillation of the unit swing type engine (4). It is thus possible to simplify the locus and range of the oscillation and make attempts to increase the stroke amount of a rear cushion unit (18), decrease the height of a seat (5) and increase the volume of the housing box (8). In addition, since the upper end of the upper side of the unit swing type engine (4) is placed under the reference line (X₁-X₁), it is possible to avoid the interference with the vehicle body (7) and improve the workability when the unit swing type engine (4) is attached to and detached from the vehicle body (7).

There is provided a batery holding device of a scooter-type vehicle in which a step board (11) is laid on a down tube (7) extending downwardly and then rearwardly from a head pipe (6) and a step board disposed on both sides of the down tube and a floor step portion (3) is formed on the step board (11) at a low portion of a vehicle body between a handle and a seat (4) on which a rider sits. The battery holding device comprises a battery box (15) in which a battery is accommodated and which is arranged in a space below the step board. The battery box is provided with a support arm (16) supported by the down tube, and the battery box is also provided with an opening (15a) which is covered by a cap (19) facing transversely outside of the vehicle body. The battery box is subjected to a water-proof treatment. An electric equipment such as a starter relay is also accommodated in the battery box together with the battery. The battery box may be divided into two compartments, one being for accommodating the battery and another being for accommodting a plurality of electric equipments, by a partition plate formed integrally with an inner wall of the battery box.
