A machine tool, typically a CNC cylindrical grinding machine comprising a bed; a worktable movable relative to the bed along a linear path; a tool head such as a wheelhead movable in a direction generally perpendicular to the direction of worktable travel with a rotatable grinding wheel mounted thereon for engaging a workpiece mounted on the worktable; headstock and tailstock means carried by the worktable for supporting the workpiece at its opposite ends; drive means associated with the headstock and tailstock means for rotating the workpiece, and a worksteady mounted so as to oppose workpiece deflection due to contact between the tool and the workpiece, the worksteady comprising a stationary part and a probe movable relative thereto, to engage the workpiece. Drive means is provided for moving the probe relative to the stationary part of the worksteady towards and away from the workpiece. Control means serves to control the probe drive means. Transducer means associated with bearings in the headstock and tailstock generate signals indicative of any net force acting on each bearing both in magnitude and direction; and circuit means supply electrical signals derived from the transducer signals and indicative of the net forces or the resultant thereof, to the said control system. The latter is programmed so as to generate control signals for the probe drive to extend or retract the probe and thereby adjust the force exerted by the probe on the workpiece, so as to at least in part cancel the net force exerted by the workpiece respectively on the headstock and tailstock bearings.

A method of automatically chamfering a wafer and an apparatus therefor are disclosed. The method comprises the steps of supplying a wafer, positioning and setting the wafer on working stages, chamfer-machining the wafer on the working stages, and recovering the wafer, all the steps being continuously performed on a full-automatic basis. The apparatus comprises a wafer supply means, a wafer positioning and setting means, a chamfer-machining means for the wafer, a wafer recovering means, and a wafer transferring means. Since the method and apparatus therefor enebles performance of a series of those operations on a continuous and full-automatic basis, it is possible to enhance the operating efficiency and machining ability and, at the same time, to achieve the manpower reduction.

Bei Werkzeugmaschinen mit rotativen Werkzeugen, insbesondere bei Schleifmaschinen, können an der Werkzeugspindel Schwingungen auftreten, die insbesondere von Lüfter des Werkzeugspindelmotors herrühren und die Werkstückbearbeitungsqualität (das Schliffbild) negativ beeinflussen. Mit der Erfindung soll deshalb eine Erhöhung der Bearbeitungsqualität von auf solchen Maschinen bearbeiteten Werkstücken erzielt werden. 2.2. Es ist deshalb vorgesehen, die Schwingungseinflüsse des Lüfters (12) gesteuert zu eliminieren, zumindest während der Feinbearbeitung des Werkstückes (4), wobei in Abhängigkeit von der gemessenen Temperatur (T) des Werkstückspindelmotors (11) und/oder von den gemessenen Schwingungen (S) ein Stellsignal (SL) an den Lüfter zu dessen Ein- bzw. Ausschalten oder zur Veränderung dessen Drehzahl abgegeben wird. Eine Lüfterbeeinflussung ist auch durch einen programmierten Schaltbefehl (Maschinenprogramm) möglich. 2.3. Die Anwendung der vorgeschlagenen Lösung ist bei Werkzeugmaschinen mit rotativen Werkzeugen möglich. Insbesondere ist diese Lösung aber für Schleifmaschinen vorgesehen.
